Our team coordinates education abroad experiences for Cornell students, advises international students and scholars on federal immigration and labor regulations, supports the engagement and success of international students and scholars into the Cornell community, and promotes cross-cultural competency on campus and beyond.

The Opportunity

The Office of Global Learning is seeking a service-oriented professional to join our team and provide advice and manage cases on immigration matters for students and scholars. In this role, you will:

• Work in university and government data systems.
• Maintain knowledge of immigration regulations.
• Serve as a federally approved Designated School Official and Alternate Responsible Officer for Cornell University's F (student) and J (exchange visitor) programs, independently entering and updating data in university and government data systems and producing immigration documents.
• Provide guidance and assistance to the units producing initial I-20 and DS-2019 documents and assist with pre-arrival issues and with incoming student SEVIS status validation.
• Report to the Senior Immigration Advisor for students and form an integral part of a team of advisors that is supported by a larger cross-office structure of administration and systems, outreach and programming coordination, and financial management.

This is a full-time (39 hours/week) endowed position that is based in Ithaca, NY. This position has the potential to follow a 3:2 campus-to-home hybrid work schedule after a period of acclimation and training. This schedule may be subject to change at any time in the future. Work hours can be either 8am-4:30pm or 8:30am-5pm, but will be mutually agreed upon.

What We Need

We are looking for a team member who is organized, attentive, and makes clients feel welcome, understood, and that their needs are being met. Attention to detail and the aptitude to manage a large volume of casework and client questions are also highly desirable. Additionally, you will have:

• Associate's degree and at least two years' experience in student services, teaching, counseling, overseas development work, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated strength in writing and interpersonal communication skills.
• Aptitude in working with computer software packages such as word processing,
  spreadsheets, and database applications.
• Proven ability to work with people from different cultures and backgrounds.

If you possess these experiences this may be the role for you! There are a few other qualifications that we would view as incredibly helpful in this role, to include:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
• Experience working with F-1 and J-1 students.
• Experience working with Sunapsis, Peoplesoft, and/or Workday software or similar.
• Ability to interpret government regulatory language.
• Second language skills.
