Position Summary:

Minimum Classification Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or closely related field in which accounting or finance coursework is significant from an accredited institution. Or an equivalent mix of education and experience that demonstrates the candidate meets all competency requirements for this position.
• Three years of experience using an integrated fiscal accounting system.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and ability to meet required deadlines.
• Ability to work independently in team-focused manner across complex, multi-dimensional institutions and with partner organizations.
• Must be able to anticipate next steps and take the initiative to respond to them proactively.
• Ability to use office software and administrative systems, including but not limited to: Microsoft, Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook; web applications and the Internet.
• Strong oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• 2-3 years direct experience in a university sponsored programs office or a combined experience equivalent
• Experience using federal rules and regulations, general cost accounting standards and administrative rules as applied to sponsored program administration.
• Designation of Certified Research Administrator (CRA), Certified Financial Research Administrator (CFRA) or Certified Grants Management Specialist (CGMS).
• Ability to prepare interpretive and detailed accounting reports and statements.
• Experience with COGNOS report writing.
• Ability to understand and work with finacial and payroll activity from multiple sources.

All Listed Duties:

• Manages grant administration system by setting up new projects with respective budgets and appropriate codes.
• Leads frequent monitoring of awards and partners with PIs in documenting progress toward goals and deliverables, and other grant project performance-related matters.
• Manages process for submitting award-related invoices or billing requests to funders based on the terms of the grant.
• Manages process for preparing and submitting award modifications for items such as no-cost extensions, carryover approvals, re-budgeting, changes in scope of work, and other changes to the award; ensuring all requests are done in compliance with sponsor guidelines and institution policies.
• Facilitates review and approval of award-related expenditures, including corrections, ensuring expenses charged meet standards of the university and funding agency.
• Manages process for filing relevant financial reports per award terms, and reconciliation of grant activity for close-out at the conclusion of the awarded project.
• Develops and delivers post-award metric reports and other analytical summaries of award activities, including funder-specific reports (e.g. the National Science Foundation HERD annual report).
• Creates and reviews written standard operating procedures for post-award functions to ensure compliance.

• Serves as a critical team member within the office to provide support for the entire lifecycle of a grant, including assisting pre-award process in reviewing budgets for accurate calculation and inclusion of appropriate rates.
• Reviews, explains and interprets university policies and procedures with respect to grant management.
• Collaborates with other Business Offices, Central Offices, external institutions and sponsoring agencies to ensure the proper management of sponsor funds.

• Ensures compliance with prime award terms and conditions and monitors sub-recipients for compliance of sub-awards.
• Ensures that daily operations comply with university, local, state, and federal policies and regulations.
• Ensures compliance with all rules and regulations related to various federal, state and private funders.
• Participates in professional development activities to remain current on grant processes.

Special Instructions to Applicants:

Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for
occasional professional development.

Must be able to work additional hours and adjust working hours to meet
special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on
an emergency basis.

Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check.
