INSTRUMENT AND CONTROL (I&C) TECHNICIAN, Facilities-Central Utilities Plant (CUP), to oversee the daily technical activities in instrumentation and control, the continuous emissions monitoring systems (CEMS), and computer systems needed to support the reliable and continued operation of CUP facilities. Responsibilities include diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and installing microprocessors, distributed control systems, programmable logic controllers (PLC), pneumatic controls, and associated instrumentation; diagnosing, calibrating, troubleshooting, and repairing field instrumentation and controls systems and maintaining appropriate control documentation; troubleshooting electronic circuitry and variable frequency drives (VFD); developing and implementing PLC logic and microprocessor changes; tuning proportional, integral, and derivative loops (PID); maintaining official logs as required by regulatory agencies; and performing tests and adjustments of electrical and pneumatic input and output devices.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; at least three years of experience in power generation or a central utility plant in an academic, hospital, marine, or industrial environment; a driver's license; and ablity to move weights of up to 50 pounds and work on feet for up to sixteen-hour periods. Working conditions include ascending ladders, scaffolds, and other above-ground locations and working with hazardous materials. Personal protective equipment--which may include hard hats, safety shoes and glasses, dust masks, ear protection, protective suits, and hot gloves--must be worn as required. Must also wear CUP-issued safety-rated uniforms.

The schedule for the position is Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M., but must be able to work extended hours, including shift work, weekends, evenings, and holidays as required. May also be required to perform call-in duty.

MIT will conduct a background check (including checking criminal records) for finalists. For current MIT SEIU members, this background check will be done for finalists who are bidding for a promotion or for a voluntary transfer to another classification or seniority unit.
