Position Summary:
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Manager, IST – Data Analytics, Research and Reporting in the Office of Information Technology supporting Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (RSDM).
Under the direction of the Executive Director of Information Systems and Technology, the Manager, IST – Data Analytics, Research and Reporting, is responsible for managing a team of analysts in support of RSDM clinical, revenue, research, and academic data analytics and reporting needs, as well as facilitating the development, management and adherence to an organization-wide reporting and data analytics strategy.
Forward facing position that interacts directly with both customers and other IT professionals. Must be able adapt quickly to comprehend each client's unique business and operational needs and resolve any challenges, employing data analysis and reporting expertise to create solutions.
Develops and maintains lasting technical solutions that leverage current analytical tools, including Tableau, Power BI, Smart Sheet and Excel, with a focus on effective integration and sustainability. Produces and manages the production of reports and data visualizations that provide insight into data set structure and meaning.
Responsible for all aspects of reporting and dashboard development life cycles, from the initial kickoff through the requirements gathering analysis, design, implementation, and support. Includes, performing detailed data analysis (i.e. determine the structure, content, and quality of the data). Designs and executes complex SQL queries and leverages available tools to validate and manipulate other data sources.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Works with subject matter experts (SMEs) to identify important information in raw data and develop solutions that extract this information from a variety of data formats, including SQL tables and structured metadata.
- Help drive a culture of continuous quality improvement through delivering current and accurate reports to enhance performance.
- Establish and maintain standards and best practices for dashboards and related technologies. Work closely with RSDM leaders, faculty, students and staff to gather, evaluate and document the needs of end-users and translate them into prioritized system requirements.
- Identify new tools and techniques to enable improved insight into business needs and performance.
- Provides guidance and mentoring to less experienced developers on BI reporting development lifecycle including tools, methodology and best practices. Provide support to user community.
- Partner with researchers to determine needs, contribute to the IRB process and provide data in line with IRB requirements.
- Directly and indirectly manage staff, performance management, and employee development.
- Collaborate with other IT professionals throughout the University in support of RSDM goals and initiatives.
Develop and maintain system documentation and procedures. - Promote system security and the confidentiality of all information related to patients, medical staff, employees and business issues.
- Remain abreast of technology direction and its relevance to the University mission via appropriate publications, formal training, attendance at meetings and conferences, and participation in professional organizations and societies at local, state and national levels.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, Computer Science or a related field.
- A minimum six (6) years of progressively more responsible experience in a related technology field with a report writing
and/or data analysis capacity. - Experience with Business Objects Crystal Report Writer.
- At least three (3) years of supervisory experience over full-time employees.
- Experience designing and building dashboards.
- Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirements.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency with Oracle systems and SQL developer.
- Proficiency with Tableau, Power BI or other data visualization tools.
- Critical thinking skills to assess reporting needs and take appropriate action.
- Demonstrated ability to translate technical information into terminology understood by all levels.
- Assertive, decisive, intuitive, professional, with well-developed interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability in prioritizing assignments, meeting deadlines, and handling simultaneous projects.
- Position requires a results oriented person with great attention to detail.
- Demonstrated experience interfacing and building relationships with key stakeholders.
- Possesses a general knowledge of applied statistics, and information systems.
- Ability to work effectively and independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to learn new technologies as the need arises
Preferred Qualifications:
- Preference will be given to applicants with experience in the
education, healthcare or research arenas. - Experience with clinical and/or research data models, knowledge of the reporting tools, and the creation of related reports.
- Experience with survey software, such as Qualtrics and REDCap.
