William James College announces an opening for a full-time Core Faculty position in the Counseling and Behavioral Health Department for the M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program beginning August 2022. Rank is commensurate with experience.
William James College is committed to an active, intentional, and ongoing engagement with diversity—in people, in the curriculum, in the co-curriculum, and in the college’s intellectual, social, cultural, and geographical communities. William James College endorses a framework of inclusive excellence, which recognizes that institutional excellence comes from fully engaging with diversity in all aspects of institutional activities.
Responsibilities:
Core faculty members are involved in teaching, advising, and scholarly work. Additionally, there is the expectation of committee work and service to the college. We are seeking applicants with clinical experience who can bring that expertise to the classroom. Applicants with an interest in addressing disparities in all aspects of counseling and/or whose work has focused on behavioral health equity for underserved and unserved communities will be of particular interest. We are seeking applicants with interest, expertise and/or experience with children, adolescents, and families. The successful candidate may teach relevant courses as well as other generalist foundational courses in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling M.A. program.
Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Counselor Education from a CACREP accredited program. Applicants will be licensed or license eligible as a mental health counselor (LMHC) or as a marriage and family therapist (LMFT) in Massachusetts and maintain some involvement in clinical practice or consultation. A demonstrated record of scholarly work defined broadly (e.g., community engagement, educational leadership, innovation, investigation, and research) is preferred. Candidates should have an established professional identity as a mental health counselor and professional service as demonstrated by participation in counseling professional associations, presentations at conferences, and/or continued education presentations, among others. Three years full time or equivalent of clinical experience post-master’s degree is preferred, but at least two years of clinical experience is required.
At least one year of experience teaching graduate students in a counselor education program, which may include experience supervising practicum and internship students is required. Expertise in one or more of the following areas preferred: children and adolescents; psychological assessment; group counseling; career counseling; psychopathology; diversity. Experience teaching asynchronous online courses as well as synchronous in-person courses is highly desirable.
Successful candidates will also have a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and multicultural competence in an educational and work environment and must be willing to contribute to the College’s strategic plan of inclusion. The department welcomes applications from individuals who may have had nontraditional career paths, or who may have taken time off for family reasons, or who have achieved excellence in careers outside of academia. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required.
Benefits:
Our benefits package includes generous health, vision and dental insurance, eligibility for both College funded 401(a) retirement plan and College sponsored 403(b) plan, company paid life and long term disability insurance, flexible spending accounts, generous PTO, and professional development opportunities.
