Summary of Position: | Monitor the academic progress and contractual compliance within the University’s public school academy portfolio. Assist in identifying academies requiring intervention due to academic proficiency or operational deficiencies. Monitor the virtual learning component for University-authorized academies. Provide support services, professional development, workshops, and program reviews for academy leadership and boards as appropriate based on individual academy needs. Travel to academies to provide essential training and assessment for the Charter Schools Office. Be knowledgeable and keep current regarding state and federal assessment programs, research, and best practices. This position is a full-time in-person schedule, primarily at the Big Rapids campus. | |

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: | Extensive knowledge of public school academies, preferably with demonstrated successful teaching and/or administrative experience within a public school academy. | |
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: | Participate in core authorizing functions, including but not limited to, reviewing applications for new charter schools and the ongoing process to evaluate performance of an existing charter school through the life cycle of the charter contract. Assist in identifying academies requiring intervention due to student academic growth and/or proficiency issues. Assist in implementing the School Support Team protocol to support academies not achieving contractual goals. Serve as liaison for university-authorized cyber academies and virtual programs. Monitor and provide reports on virtual learning initiatives in the university-authorized public school academy portfolio. Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members. Provide support services, professional development, workshops and program reviews for academy leadership and boards as appropriate based on individual academy needs. Monitor the academic progress of university-authorized academies through analysis of state-level and NWEA performance data. Assist academies in analyzing and using both quantitative and qualitative data to improve student learning outcomes. Assist academies in networking with external support services including trainings, other schools, ISE resources, etc. Assist in the evaluation of educational programs of each academy to provide input for reauthorization recommendations. Create professional relationships with academy leaders to serve as a point of contact to answer academic related inquires. Organize and lead mid-contract and reauthorization site reviews. Assist in establishing and implementing CSO departmental goals and strategies as it relates to the department strategic plan. Create and sustain relationships with the Michigan Council of Charter School Authorizers and the Michigan Department of Education. Use problem-solving skills in a variety of situations. Must be willing to travel frequently to all university-authorized academies, as well as to events sponsored by charter school professional organizations. Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members.
