SUMMARY
The Student Financial Services (SFS) Representative will serve as the initial contact for the Student Financial Services Office providing professional and positive customer service. The SFS Representative will assist students with questions, paperwork, and other requirements as they relate to financial aid and student receivables. This position will provide support in all areas of the Financial Services Department to include customer service, cashier duties, receptionist duties, and back-up for general student account functions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned by proper personnel.
- Determines the customer’s individual need, provides information to students, parents, and prospective students, and refers students to appropriate department.
- Interacts daily with students face-to-face, via telephone, and email. Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing. Summarizes conversations to student file for future reference. Sends mass email notifications. Initiates phone calls to collect required aid documentation and payments. Empowers our students to utilize Spring Arbor University’s online services, portals, and web pages.
- Responds to student account-related questions regarding statements, payment options, payment deadlines, tuition rates, and 1098T tax forms.
- Assist students with financial aid questions at different stages of the process. Explains aid programs, application procedures, eligibility criteria, why specific documents are requested, how to electronically accept awards, how to use remaining funds for textbooks.
- Handles confidential material and communications while adhering to FERPA. Records financial aid documents into the student files for verification and packaging review.
- Receipts incoming monies including tuition and invoice payments, tax revenue, and departmental deposits. Posts payments to the proper account and maintain documentation. Reconcile the cash drawer and prepares bank deposits verifying amounts.
- Sorts mail, data entry, filing, scanning, and accurate record keeping.
- Performs other related tasks as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Possesses a knowledge of general office procedures and practices. Skillful knowledge of the use of Microsoft Office Suite programs. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication and problem resolution skills are essential.
- Knowledge of basic accounting procedures and money management.
- Ability to effectively respond to changes in the workload as determined by the academic calendar, special events or prioritization of tasks by the Assistant Director of Student Financial Services.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree preferred. Two or more years of related customer service experience required. Financial aid, business, accounting, or related field experience preferred.
Experience working in multicultural academic environments preferred and individuals from diverse populations are encouraged to apply.
