Job Description:
The LUCHA Empowerment Coordinator will manage and coordinate the daily operations of the Latinos Unidos for College and Higher Achievement (LUCHA) Initiative. This position exists to assist Latine and underrepresented communities to access higher education opportunities. This position will take a lead role in the development, evaluation and implementation of retention efforts that support the Minneapolis College Latine student demographic including students with mixed immigration status through the LUCHA initiative and Star Scholars Program.
This position assist in the recruitment of prospective students by developing relationships through community outreach in collaboration with enrollment services. The position serves to actively provide retention services and make informative program decisions through academic advising, special initiatives and monitoring key success indicators for student retention and degree completion. Outreach efforts includes working directly with Minneapolis and Saint Paul public schools, community organizations, co-chairing various committees and program sponsored events, public speaking, recruiting, tutoring, event and workshop planning.
This position works to continue to advance Minneapolis College's aspiration of becoming an anti-racist institution. The role serves as a collaborator within the Equity & Inclusion division in providing anti-racist, culturally responsive and equity centered learning opportunities to the Minneapolis College campus through facilitating trainings, workshops, speaker series, representation on college committees and advising student led programming.

Required Qualifications:
- Associates degree in higher education or related field with one year of related experience OR, a combination of equivalent years of experience and education
- Fluency in both English and Spanish, written and oral
- Knowledge of the metropolitan area and community resources in relation to effective retention of Latino, Chicano, and Mexican American students.
- Knowledge of the issues and working experience with immigrant students including undocumented students and underrepresented students
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external clients
- Experience with outreach planning and scheduling
- Strong written and oral communication skills sufficient to write and prepare statistical reports, present to administrators and groups
- Demonstrates an effort to improve cultural competence and actively takes steps to include diversity training in professional development.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences or related field
- Knowledge of the college, academic programs, enrollment management processes, student affairs department (resources and functions)
- Knowledge of college policies and procedures for admissions
- Ability to assist the prospective student in career exploration and the application process
- Knowledge of the market analysis, marketing, targeting student populations
- Familiarity with the culture and history of the Hispanic/Latine communities in the twin cities area
- Ability to provide and maintain follow-up statistical reports on enrollment and retention of underrepresented students and/or immigrant students
