This is an ad to recruit for a postdoctoral research position to work with Cynthia Lakon, Associate Professor & Interim Chair, Department of Health, Society, & Behavior, Program in Public Health at the University of California, Irvine. This postdoctoral position has an expected term of 12 months (with the possibility of extension), conditional on satisfactory performance and availability of funding.
Earliest start date is summer 2021 and applications will be considered until the position is filled. The purpose of this position is to carry out research on various topics in the area of social networks and health.
Background: Candidates should have a background and research interests in one or more the areas of: adolescent peer networks, social support, and adolescent substance use; elderly adult social networks and cognitive functioning; the social networks of adult stroke survivors; or injection drug user networks. The postdoctoral researcher will have the ability to work on projects in any or all of these areas. Some of this research work will entail using dynamic network methodologies, including stochastic actor-based models. Other aspects of the scope of work will require knowledge of egocentric network analysis. Successful candidates will have experience with one or more of these methodologies and strong writing skills. The postdoctoral scholar will have the option to join a multidisciplinary research team and will work in conjunction with other faculty, student, and postdoctoral researchers at the Center for Networks and Relational Analysis at UC Irvine on studies of dynamic adolescent networks and substance use. This setting provides extensive opportunities to work both independently and in a team setting with researchers in disciplines ranging from public health and criminology to computer science and statistics.
Qualifications: The candidate will be expected to have a PhD, or a Master's degree and PhD submitted, at the time of beginning the position, with degrees expected to be in public health, anthropology, sociology, psychology, mathematics, statistics, or another closely related discipline. Qualified applicants must have the demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of colleagues.
