The Bates College Department of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for two two- year, full-time (five courses each) positions as Visiting Assistant Professors in 2022–24, starting August 2022. The applicant should have a Ph.D. in physics, astronomy, or a related field, in hand or completed by the start of the contract. The successful candidates will teach introductory and upper-level courses and supervise senior theses in a vigorous undergraduate program. The mission statement of Bates College celebrates “the transformative power of our differences.” Accordingly, we believe that campus diversity contributes to student learning, and we embrace our college’s aim to extend access to a Bates education to a wider range of students. Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to the success of historically underrepresented, marginalized and first-generation students are encouraged to apply. To ensure full consideration, please describe these potential contributions in the letter of application and in the statement on teaching and research interests.
Application Instructions
Review of applications begins March 21, 2022 and will continue until the position is filled. Please upload a letter of application, curriculum vitae (including the names of three references), a statement on teaching and research interests, graduate transcripts, and one letter of recommendation.
