The Panagiotakos Lab, located in the Regeneration Medicine building (Eli and Edythe Broad Center of Regeneration Medicine and Stem Cell Research) at the UCSF Parnassus campus, is seeking a highly motivated candidate interested in conducting basic science research with translational relevance in developmental neurobiology. This limited appointment Staff Research Associate I (SRA I) position will involve working closely with the PI and other members of the laboratory to conduct experiments aimed at understanding how calcium signaling and electrical activity regulate different aspects of cellular differentiation in normal brain development and in the context of psychiatric disease.

Staff Research Associate I (SRA I) responsibilities include: animal husbandry and maintenance of mouse breeding colonies; stocking and aliquoting common lab reagents; performing molecular biology techniques (e.g., molecular cloning, RNA extractions, qRT-PCR, library preparation for various sequencing approaches, etc), biochemistry (e.g., Western blot, immunoprecipitation), and/or mouse in vivo experiments; and assisting with tissue culture and tissue preparation, histology and microscopy, as needed for specific projects under the supervision of the PI and a senior member of the lab. Prior laboratory experience is preferred, particularly with respect to molecular biology techniques, but we will also provide training in these various approaches. To be successful in this position, the candidate must be efficient, flexible and self-motivated, with exceptional organization skills, strong analytical and communication skills, faithful execution of established protocols and systematic troubleshooting of new protocols.
The job will involve the ability to hand eye coordination.
