The Executive Director of Strategic Initiatives and External Relations reports to the President and serves on the Senior Staff team; works with the campus to prioritize and implement strategic initiatives; and helps lead community relations efforts, including developing opportunities for corporate and foundation fundraising. Occasional nights/weekend work and off-campus travel required.
Essential Job Functions:
Help facilitate strategic planning processes, providing expertise and project management for specific strategic initiatives that are critical in meeting the college’s goals.
Interact with colleagues across the college and external constituents to ensure institutional alignment and synergy with the strategic plan.
Build and nurture relationships with corporations, government agencies, foundations and other external constituents to build college affiliations and help develop strategic priorities, funding and resource opportunities.
Assist the President with ongoing functions and events, board relations, communications, special projects and external requests.
Conduct research to support college initiatives in coordination with the Director of Institutional Research; gather, investigate, research, analyze, and/or study information affecting college-wide operations and external relations.
Serve as advisor and confidant to the President, providing knowledge and status about a variety of College issues, and be prepared and able to state the College’s position on a variety of issues.
Be a strong advocate for the essential value of a premiere residential liberal arts education in the broader landscape of higher education.
Have appreciation of, a sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty and staff of many social, economic, cultural, ideological, racial and ethnic backgrounds.
Maintain high levels of confidentiality on sensitive issues and on all matters related to relationships with the President.

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s or Ph.D. preferred. Requires a minimum of five years of increased responsibility.
Knowledge and Skills
Must be organized and adept at managing multiple responsibilities and tasks while working effectively with diverse internal and external constituencies including the senior team, faculty, staff, students, alumni and Trustees, as well as government, corporate, and foundation constituents.
Exemplary writing, editing, and proofreading skills required.
Keen listening and strong public speaking skills required, including ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from various constituents. Should demonstrate the ability to define problems, collect data, articulate facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Must have a collegial and calm temperament with strong interpersonal skills, including self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and a good sense of humor.
Limited pushing, pulling, lifting. Lifting would not exceed 15 lbs.
Mobility on campus necessary along with driver’s license and ability to travel.
