The Alumni Relations and Annual Giving Officer is a critical member of the CEHD’s External Relations team, ensuring connected and engaged alumni and a strong base of charitable giving to enable the college to further its ambitious goals. This position is responsible for developing and delivering a comprehensive alumni relations program and annual giving program to expand a culture of engagement and philanthropy, build a pipeline of major givers, and to increase unrestricted annual support to CEHD. The Alumni Relations and Annual Giving Officer reports to the Senior Advancement Operations Officer and is a member of the External Relations team, which includes both development and alumni relations.
Alumni Relations Program Management: (40%)
Lead the strategic vision and planning for building a best practices-oriented alumni relations program designed to serve as a pipeline for future philanthropic support for CEHD.
Collaborate with the college’s development team to properly integrate all alumni relationsefforts with development.
Leverage graduate and undergraduate populations in order to identify and cultivateindividuals who can become engaged with the college and provide financial support.
Provide leadership and direction to the Alumni Society Board in developing and carrying out the goals of the Alumni Relations Strategic Plan.
Work closely with Alumni Society Board to identify future prospective members who arerepresentative of the alumni body; develop and lead a comprehensive orientation programfor new board members.
Provide direction and support in the areas of alumni volunteer management and training,engagement programming, and alumni-student networking, etc., all with the goal ofbuilding alumni engagement levels and creating robust connections for CEHD alumni.
Develop a culture of innovation and engagement in alumni programming, leading theimplementation of a creative and meaningful program of activities and events for alumni,including in-person events, webinars, and other strategies focused on career development,lifelong learning, and social connections.
Lead and develop alumni communications, including social media, email, and print.
Serve as the primary point of contact for the college with the University of MinnesotaAlumni Association, and promote UMAA activities to CEHD stakeholders.
Annual Giving Program (40%)
Work with the Senior Advancement Operations Officer and University of Minnesota Foundation to develop and execute CEHD’s annual fund strategy, to include:
Mass solicitation and stewardship strategies (i.e. direct mail, tele-fundraising,texting, e-solicitations etc.).
Give to the Max Day efforts, including securing a match and generating excitementthrough social media, video, and in-person outreach.
First time and consistent giving milestone recognition.
Mini crowdfunding campaigns.
Faculty/staff giving and stewardship.
Develop both annual and long-term plans and goals that grow retention, activation, anddollars raised for the CEHD annual giving program using strategic input and partnering withthe External Relations team.
Write and edit targeted solicitation letter text and email copy.
Work with the U of M Foundation staff to manage project deadlines, mailing listsegments, printing, and mailing of 3-4 centralized mailings per year.
Plan and execute a complex multi-segment, multi-channel annual giving program.
Other special appeals as assigned by the Senior Advancement Operations Officer.
Provide leadership and vision for the Dean’s Fund for Excellence, positioning it as an essential and integrated component of the CEHD’s advancement strategy.
Execute "best practice" fundraising through careful management, reporting, back-testing,and analysis.
Develop and execute creative and meaningful stewardship program for annual givingdonors.
Represent CEHD at the U of M Foundation, as it relates to annual giving.
Major Gifts Pipeline Development (15%)
Work closely and collaboratively with development officers to position alumni relations engagement opportunities as a pipeline for major gifts.
Implement programs that create a culture of philanthropy among CEHD’s alumni andfriends, faculty, staff, and students.
Provide a seamless interface to donors by working closely with major gift developmentofficers who manage portfolios of prospects ($50,000+).
Other Duties as Assigned (5%)
BA/BS plus at least 4 years of experience
3+ years progressive responsibility in fundraising, alumni relations, or closely related field.
Superb organizational, interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills, and theability to successfully manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to proactively, effectively, and efficiently manage a program portfolio workingtactfully with a diverse group of internal and external constituents.
