Required Qualifications (As evidenced by an attached resume): Bachelor's Degree (Foreign equivalent or higher degree). One year of full-time experience in a college or university setting in one or more of the following areas: academic advising, transfer advising, counseling, (Experience obtained as a student or intern/extern may be considered).
Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree (Foreign equivalent or higher degree). Academic advising experience in a college or university setting. Experience with conducting orientation, registration, etc. presentations. Experience with Google Apps.Experience with any of the following education systems: Peoplesoft, Degree Works, NOLIJ, Navigate, Blackboard. Experience with the degree audit process.
Brief Description of Duties :
Academic Advising: Provide high quality, proactive academic advising to undergraduates in their freshmen, sophomore, junior and senior year. Advise and track an assigned cohort for a particular graduate class initiative. Such advising will occur in individual and group settings on an ongoing basis, and will include regular communication about courses, undergraduate business programs, Stony Brook Curriculum, degree planning, policies/procedures, campus engagement and academic success. Provide active support, follow-up, and strategies for success to all students including students on academic action. Serve as a general walk-in and on-call advisor.
Orientation/Registration: Attend various freshman and transfer orientations throughout the summer and winter. Assist in the planning of and attend College of Business segments of Admitted Student Days "major" events and information sessions. Also assist with the various responsibilities including planning, staging and distribution of tickets for CoB Commencement.
Program Coordination: Process and facilitate degree audits, graduation clearances, initial review of major/minor applications and course retakes. Issue course permissions and retakes on PeopleSoft to facilitate student registration.
Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
Special Notes: This is a full time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
