Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Physician Specialist Unclassified (Medical Toxicology Consultant) for the department of Emergency Medicine at New Jersey Medical School (NJMS). Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Medical Toxicology Consultant to New Jersey Poison Information and Education System (NJPIES) will support the clinical operations of the Poison Center as well as enhance surveillance, educational, and academic programs.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Provides Specialist Poison Information (SPIs) with assistance in case management, as needed.
Consults directly with health care providers in the management of a case, as needed.
Assures SPIs know when they should follow up on a case that the Toxicology consultant has been involved with.
Reviews open cases and assists with the provision of staff education and quality assurance.
Conducts teaching rounds, including going through active cases being managed.
Participate in bi-monthly journal club and lead journal club once every 2-3 months.
Assists with design and implementation of quality improvement programs at NJPIES (to be approved by Medical Director prior to implantation).
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to work at varying computer workstations provided by the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine in shared office environments.
Ability to type and use a computer to enter in the Electronic Medical Records.
Ability to read, write and speak or communicate in English to successfully accomplish the essential duties of the position.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Frequently walks, bends, stretches, pushes and pulls.
Intermittent physical exertion when performing job activities.
