The Division of Geriatrics seeks a part-time (per diem) Physician Assistant (PA) to support the Age-Friendly Geriatrics Emergency Department (AFED) consult service. UCSF is engaged in creating an Age-Friendly Health System (AFHS), and this position requires optimizing the care of older adults in the emergency department setting when consults are requested by Emergency Department (ED) providers.
The clinical work involves providing consult services from Geriatrics to the ED by completing structured assessments, patient exam, and making recommendations to the ED and PCPs for ongoing care/home management as indicated. It involves coordination with pharmacists, ED providers, geriatricians, social workers, community-based providers, and other services to create an optimal discharge plan or for ongoing care for the patient. The position requires working collaboratively with the geriatricians in the Division of Geriatrics that are identified on scheduled shifts and with the ED faculty regarding the external funds. The position does not involve direct clinical management of patients in the emergency department.
The PA will be guided and follow the policies, rules and regulations, requirement of supervision under CA statute, and bylaws of the UCSF Health, some Nursing, Medical Staff, and any unique policies related to the provision of patient services. In California, a physician assistant (PAs) can practice, bill, and provide independent health care services under clinical services agreement (CSA) in collaboration with the department chair's approval.
This position is for one year based on the available outside funding and will be renewed each year based on available fund support. This is a per diem PA position requiring a commitment of at least 4 shifts per month. All shifts are 8 hours and the service requires on site clinical coverage 7 days per week.
