Research - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
UCSF's Division of General Internal Medicine (DGIM) and Center for Vulnerable Populations (CVP) at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG) is seeking a detail-oriented and excellent communicator to support the growing Health Information Technology and the Safety-Net program as a Research Data Analyst. The position is based primarily in DGIM's offices at ZSFG, but may involve occasional travel to other UCSF campuses.
This Research lab focuses on: * Developing and implementing ways to reveal and address ambulatory/outpatient patient safety in public hospital systems * Applying technology and communication innovation to improve outpatient care for diverse, vulnerable patients * Disseminating patient safety innovations across a variety of social and professional networks.
The Lab's research employs new tools like digital/mobile health and social media to address to improve the safety and quality of outpatient care. The Principal Investigator (PI) has expertise in medical errors and patient safety, diabetes, and cancer prevention and survivorship. This research incorporates collaboration with a range of expertise including design thinking/usability testing, human factors engineering, data science, health services research, and implementation science.
The PI has conducted studies, which explore the impact of health communication (health literacy, English proficiency) and health information technology on patient safety. Their prior studies on internet-based patient portals demonstrate digital disparities by race/ethnicity and health literacy. The PI's social media studies use mixed-methods approaches to understand patient perspectives about physician quality and about cancer screening behaviors. Their ongoing work employs varied health information technologies to detect and ameliorate adverse events among outpatient chronic disease populations. The PI is currently funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI), and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, among others.
The Research Data Analyst will be a proactive, flexible research professional with an interest in working collaboratively with a research team on a variety of projects. They will demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. The employee is able to generate high-quality products both independently and with others. Conduct qualitative data gathering and analysis and synthesis of research findings into manuscripts for peer reviewed publications as well as prepare talks and poster presentations for the PI. There will be opportunities for co-authorship with the PI.
Responsibilities include: * Conducting literature searches and systematic reviews and maintaining reference libraries * Collaborating with the project team to support ongoing grant progress reports, new grant applications and applications to Institutional Review Board * Maintaining files, expense reports and reimbursement of expenses for ongoing projects of the investigator * Coordinating research meetings, including scheduling, taking notes, distributing minutes, and executing deliverables. Able to communicate effectively and professionally with external collaborators * Coordinating data collection efforts for surveys and qualitative interviews of patients and health care workers, including developing research tools, compiling data collection packets, managing data collection efforts, conducting data collection, and partnering with the team's statistician in preparation of data analysis * Presenting research findings to a diverse range of audiences, ranging from academic posters, presentations, and publications to online blog posts and visual abstracts geared towards the general public, as well as fundraising materials catered towards philanthropic organizations * In coordination with the research team, contribute to development of scientific manuscripts and grant applications as needed. Opportunities for co-authorship exist * Support the team with a can-do attitude - filling in gaps where needed no matter what the task. Flexibility and willingness to adapt to the evolving needs of the program are essential for success in this position.
