The overall purpose of the Staff Research Associate I (SRA I) position is, under supervision, to perform ex-vivo assays of platelet behavior in blood samples from COVID-19 patients, trauma patients, and critically ill patients. The essential nature of this is due to the current nationwide multi-center novel clinical trials, including COVID-19, and epidemiology studies supported by the Department of Defense (DoD), the National Institute of Health (NIH).
Under close technical supervision, the SRA I will be responsible for laboratory research activities in a trauma/general surgery laboratory and involves laboratory organization, assist the fellows and students and performance of experiments and testing on human blood and tissue samples. The research focuses on coagulation in COVID-19 and after trauma, inflammatory biology and complex systems approaches to coagulation. The SRA I will receive training on all of our platelet-based assays including: platelet isolation techniques; RNA sequencing prep; platelet aggregometry and viscoelastic assays.
