The Staff Research Associate I/II (SRA I/II) will work on translational science research projects within the Applied Genomics (AG) laboratory. The AG laboratory services the I-SPY 2 and I-SPY Phase 1 breast cancer clinical trials that characterize biomarkers of response to various therapies. The biological specimens collected will be used for various assays, including: immunohistochemical markers, genomic profiling, gene expression, proteomic arrays, serum proteomics, and various protein tests. These clinical trials provide the opportunity for the molecular characterization of locally advanced breast cancers and the measurement of tumor response to therapy with MRI.
The SRA I/II will be part of a team responsible for receiving and storing samples acquired as part of the I-SPY clinical trails. A primary goal of the team is to process samples to send out to companies for testing as part of the trial enrollment process. This function is time sensitive with defined turn around times for samples. A secondary goal of the team is assisting in the development of biomarkers in breast cancer samples, including study of cell cycle checkpoints, apoptosis, hormone receptors, receptor tyrosine kinases and downstream genes, genome copy number and expression, and proteomics. As part of this effort, the SRA I/II will be responsible for the sectioning and staining of frozen and FFPE tumor specimens for pathological assessment and entering associated data into the databases that electronically track the samples and collect specimen characteristics. Where required, tasks must be performed according to established operating procedures and deviations reported according to laboratory policies.
