The Department of Veterinary Microbiology & Preventive Medicine is currently seeking a Research Scientist I/II.
VMPMâs mission is to create an environment that promotes excellence in teaching, research and service through innovation and discovery.Â The department imparts knowledge and skills in infectious diseases, encourages lifelong learning, conducts basic and applied research focused on animal and human health, participates in professional and community service, and partners with stakeholders to address societal needs.
This position can be hired as either a Research Scientist I or II.
For the Research Scientist I, the minimum qualification is a Bachelor's degree. The pay grade is PS806.
For the Research Scientist II, the minimum qualification is a Bachelor's degree and two years of related experience. The pay grade is PS807.
Summary Responsible for operation of a specialized research area or laboratory.
Example of Duties â¢ Develops, designs and conducts one or more small or moderately complex research projects or experiments in line with plan, reviews progress and evaluates results. â¢ Formulates research methods and suggests options for improving quality, identifies potential problems, recommends and implements solutions, and collaborates in the development of new techniques. â¢ Assists with publications and writing or developing grants. â¢ Trains users in equipment operation and laboratory techniques, explains and demonstrates technology and equipment capabilities, operations, limitations and outcomes. â¢ Coordinates data collection and screening and verifies the data. â¢ Conducts analysis of data, interprets and implements research methodology based on outcome of analysis.
Level Guidelines â¢ Individual contributor position with developing professional and/or technical skills working under immediate to general supervision â¢ Grasps professional-level knowledge and concepts of field while working in a progressive learning mode â¢ Works on problems and issues of somewhat limited scope â¢ Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data for which answers are available or can be obtained â¢ Responds to inquiries and issues, escalating to manager or higher level workers as appropriate â¢ May lead projects of limited scope and complexity â¢ May provide guidance to students
