The Facilities & Operations Department at the University of Tennessee Space Institute in Tullahoma, Tennessee is searching for a Facilities Services General Maintenance 1 position. One vacancy, regular, full-time, hourly paid position with excellent benefits. Salary dependent upon education and experience.
Duties/Responsibilities: Successful candidate will have duties that include but are not limited to patching and painting block and drywall office walls and hallways, assembling and installing furniture, moving furniture, daily package deliveries, twice weekly in town pick-ups, and manual labor. Assist certified technicians in various areas and grounds crew as needed. Successful candidate is required to take annual safety and OSHA training. Performs other related duties as required.
This position requires the ability to climb ladders, work in high places, to walk over extended periods, ability to navigate uneven and sometimes slippery surfaces; and perform repeated bending, standing, and reaching as well as lifting up to 75 pounds. Knowledge to safely operate and maintain heavy equipment, i.e. tractors, mowers, forklift, aerial lift, drills, saws, etc. Must have ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, staff and university personnel and work with others in a respectful, cooperative manner and be a team player. Must have ability to work independently as well as with others. Must have ability to follow written and oral directions, take safety and maintenance courses related to the position, pass mandatory Program for Minors training, and pass a background check. Must be reliable in attendance, clean and neat in appearance, have dependable transportation, and be able to perform moderately strenuous activities. Must be able to occasionally work on call.
*High school diploma or GED and six months of relevant experience, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
*Valid driver's license
* Experience in maintenance field a plus.
