Towson University is accepting applications for an Assistant Director of Leadership with the Office of Student Activities. This position is part of a team charged with developing programs and services designed to facilitate student involvement and enhance the overall student experience through campus programs and activities. The Assistant Director is responsible for leadership initiatives, and student organizations; and serves as a back-up advisor to the Student Government Association when the Director is absent. The Assistant Director will work with and provide support to the Director in areas related to strategic planning, budget management, learning outcomes and assessment, and staff development for professional and student staff. This position supervises two full-time coordinators.
The Assistant Director is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing a comprehensive leadership program for students across campus. Current leadership programs included in the AD’s portfolio include: TU’s LeaderShape Institute (2 sessions); student summits; CliftonStrengths; ILEAD & WeLead program series, Student Affairs Leadership Awards, and Leadership Lecture Series. Assist the Director with departmental strategic planning, budget management oversight, assessment and learning outcomes, and staff development. Work with Assistant Director of Programming to create a comprehensive department assessment plan including learning outcomes. Serve on the Division of Student Affairs assessment committee. Chair the Student Affairs Leadership Awards committee.
Supervise the Coordinator of Student Organizations who is responsible for training and oversight of over 215 student organizations, governing policies/procedures, development of the faculty/staff advisor model, and co-advisor to Student Homecoming Planning Committee. Supervise the Coordinator of Student Leadership who is responsible for creating and implementing the iLEAD program series, advising the National Society of Leadership & Success, assisting with the coordination of CliftonStrengths presentations, and assisting with the execution of faculty requests for classroom leadership workshops. Perform other duties as assigned.
Masters degree required.
Minimum of three years of full-time work experience.
Supervisory and budget management experience.
Demonstrated understanding of program planning and assessment.
Demonstrated understanding of leadership development theories, social justice, diversity, and inclusion.
Previous experiences that can speak to the knowledge of working in a diverse environment and serving a diverse student population.
Salary and Benefits
