The Center for Engaged Liberal Arts at Oberlin College invites applications for a Director of International Programs and Study Away. This is a full-time, twelve month Administrative and Professional Staff position in the College of Arts and Sciences reporting to the Director of Experiential Learning. The Director of International Programs and Study Away provides overall leadership for and management of the college’s domestic and international study away programs and its services.
The Director promotes international education (study abroad and away, global academic service learning, and international internships) by advising students, faculty and staff on various opportunities and options; working with students and faculty to assure compliance with college policies; identifying appropriate opportunities; preparing students for an immersion experience; developing and offering opportunities for students for reflection and application of experience through learning portfolio mentorship; advocating on campus for global immersion experience; and supporting the mission of the Center for Engaged Liberal Arts.
Oberlin excels in experiential and connected learning as central to a transformative liberal arts educational experience. The Center for Engaged Liberal Arts (CELA) helps students catalyze and sustain the integration of curricular and co-curricular experiential learning and develop a compelling personal and professional narrative of their Oberlin education that will help launch them into their careers. CELA closely coordinates affiliated programming (global education, community-based learning, undergraduate research, career development, fellowships, learning portfolio, winter term) in the following key areas:
scaffolded advising across experiential learning programs and courses and strategically identified curricular and co-curricular benchmarks in students’ journey from orientation to graduation;
cultivating partnerships that yield internship, study-away, winter term, community-based learning, research, and other experiential opportunities for students, faculty, and staff;
supporting students in documenting their Oberlin academic and co-curricular journeys through Oberlin’s learning portfolio platform and the development and delivery of program-specific portfolio curricula.
Build and maintain Oberlin’s strong portfolio of international and domestic programs for study away.
Provide leadership for Oberlin’s strategic international initiatives. Develop and execute a strategy that aligns study abroad offerings with faculty and staff needs and Oberlin’s global learning strategy.
Lead policy, process, and systems development to support study abroad operations, including student recruitment, advising, application, and enrollment; budgets and accounting; global program operations; data analytics; grant writing and fundraising; and marketing and outreach.
Lead assessment and evaluation of program and global learning goals.
Directly advise students and manage advising for approximately 300 study away students per year, including organization of study away fair, public information sessions, and individual advising.
Collaborate with Director of Winter Term to oversee short-term international winter term project development and management.
Oversee risk management policy and communication for all international and study away programs.
Direct the continued development of Oberlin’s use of Terra Dotta software.
Deliver and assess a learning portfolio curriculum specific to students studying abroad.
Manage specific international funds and oversee the budget for International Off Campus Study.
Work with Off Campus Study and Winter Term Committees and other campus offices such as Registrar, Student Accounts, and Financial Aid, and the Academic Advising Resource Center.
Develop and deliver a DEI plan for Study Away and contribute to CELA-wide DEI work.
Serve as an ex officio member of the General Faculty Off-Campus Study Committee.
Supervise staff assistants.
Serve as an ex officio member of the Danenberg Oberlin-in-London faculty committee and oversee administration of the Danenberg Oberlin-in-London Program.
Working closely with the Director of Experiential Learning, collaborate with CELA colleagues to support intersections among programs, develop shared programming, and work as a team to advance experiential learning at Oberlin.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Experiential Learning and the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Capacity to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities concurrently and to work in an atmosphere with frequent interruptions from students and staff
Experience with financial and budget management
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Demonstrated experience collaborating within an office, with multiple departments, and with faculty to support institutional priorities and experiential learning goals.
Use of Google Suite and ability to learn multiple software platforms, including Terra Dotta, Digication, and Qualtrics
Ability to work some nights, weekends, and occasional travel
Masters degree in related field. Minimum of 5-years experience working in the field of study away; Prior student-facing work experience in an educational setting; Ability to manage complex and multiple tasks with minimal supervision; Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations of learners and associates; Evidence of experience supporting a diverse, equitable, and inclusive curricular and co-curricular learning experience for students in higher education.
