PT College & Career Advisor (Special Program Coordinator), MassSTEP (Skills, Training and Education Program)

Non-benefited, Grant-funded, MCCC unit position
The Adult Learning Center (ALC) of North Shore Community College is funded by the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) to serve Adult Basic Education (ABE) students in the North Shore region. The MassSTEP IT program provides general instruction and guidance to ALC students and other adults in the community to help them achieve college-and career-readiness, to explore and move into Information Technology Fields and further occupational training or postsecondary education. The MassSTEP IT Pathway program features IT training with concurrent HiSET or Accuplacer preparation, academic skills' instruction, and workplace communication. The MassSTEP Special Program Coordinator/College & Career Advisor will work under the supervision of the Dean of Corporate and Professional Education in the ALC setting. The person is responsible for student recruitment & advising, coordination of project operations, coordination of "next steps" such as IT internships, preparation of student orientation, processing of student database records and intake documents, and coordination of the MassSTEP IT staff team. Performs related work as directed.
The Special Program Coordinator/College & Career Advisor plays a dual role in the MassSTEP program, with a focus on recruitment and retention of adult students from admission to completion of the program.
As Coordinator, this individual will:
perform administrative tasks related to project goals
process a variety of documentation associated with department activities
manage all aspects of program planning, delivery & implementation
interact with various external and internal partnerships
facilitate regular staff team meetings
participate in professional development activities
commit to continuous improvement
uphold DESE standards and policies
As the College & Career Advisor, this individual will:
provide leadership in the delivery of holistic, "appreciative" academic, career and personal advising
facilitate the development of individual student resumes and admission to internship programs
provide information and referrals to NSCC programs of study
assist current and graduated students with scholarship applications
work collaboratively with the Dean of Corporate and Professional Education, the Senior Special Programs Coordinator of the Adult Learning Center, all program staff, other college personnel and area agencies
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
work with ALC Sr. Special Programs Coordinator on recruitment activities
provide pre-admission advising, screening and assessment for students considering the MassSTEP IT program
serve as a liaison for IT employer partners
work collaboratively with other ALC Advisors on workplace readiness activities
act as the main academic and career support for a cohort of MassSTEP students based on students' career interests/aptitudes
work individually with students in their assigned cohorts to formulate long range integrated academic and career plans
identify life issues that may need support from either college or outside resources and help students access those resources
prepare and generate reports identifying academic and career outcomes related to student success
consistently demonstrate a positive and professional attitude
other duties as assigned
SALARY: $30.03 per hour, non-benefited, PT MCCC position, grant funded.

Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Business Administration, Computer Science, or other field related to area of assignment required, Master's degree preferred.
Experience and/or training, including academic advising, career development, program/project management in an academic environment.
Demonstrated knowledge of remote instruction and advising tools such as Zoom and Google Classroom
Familiarity with IT careers preferred
Knowledge of Community College academic programs, services and culture preferred
Knowledge of career exploration assessment tests and tools preferred
Understanding of curriculum development and/or teaching experience preferred
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Ability to think critically and creatively
Demonstrated understanding of the barriers that challenge adult learners
Demonstrated ability to plan and organize with well-developed technology skills
Demonstrated ability to provide interpersonal connection with culturally diverse populations
Strong interpersonal, communication, writing, digital and public speaking skills
Ability to travel to community sites in response to program needs
Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or a National background check as a condition of employment.
Additional Salary Information: $30.03 per hour, non-benefited, PT MCCC position, grant funded.
