Michigan Public Health is looking for a Social Media and Content Specialist to join the school's Marketing and Communications team. Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Public Relations, you will develop social media strategies aimed at communicating with and engaging target audiences, including prospective students, current students, alumni, and others. You will also write and edit content for the website and other digital channels.
Candidates for this position have experience managing social media for an organization or business. We are looking for a writer who thinks strategically and works collaboratively. We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds who share our passion for developing creative solutions.
The Marketing and Communication team prioritizes creativity, collaboration and communication. We pride ourselves on working together to produce high-quality and impactful work in the most efficient and strategic way possible to promote the goals of the school and its departments.
You will have the option for a hybrid work schedule (some time in the office and some time remote).
Plan, create and post engaging content for all Michigan Public Health social media platforms, including Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
Create social media editorial calendar aimed at delivering content aligned with school priorities, including student recruitment, fundraising, reputation management and culture-building.
Maintain paid social advertising campaigns.
Track social media metrics and create reports for colleagues, leaders and partners throughout the school.
Coordinate with UM Social, the university’s central social media team, and others across campus on social media-related partnerships and opportunities.
Provide training and guidance to faculty and others within the school on social media best practices.
Collaborate with partners within the school to write and edit website copy, with a focus on accessibility and SEO.
Partner with members of the Marketing and Communications team to produce and edit content to be shared on social media as well as other platforms, including student, faculty, and alumni profiles and blog posts; podcast episodes; video content; and more.
A bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience managing social media for an organization or business.
Familiarity with the strategic use of social platforms for brand awareness, reputation management and community engagement.
Experience writing engaging short-form content for social media and longer form content such as articles and marketing copy.
Experience distilling complex, nuanced information into engaging and understandable social media posts, articles, website copy.
Excellent verbal and written skills.
A fundamental understanding of social media metrics and how to use data to make informed decisions.
Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments, and produce high-quality work on deadline.
Experience working with different individuals and constituencies in a diverse community. Experience engaging people in developing and working towards shared goals.
