Duties and responsibilities:
60% Research Performing peptide and small molecule solid-phase organic synthesis. Performing RP-HPLC purification and analytical characterizations including RP-HPLC and HR-MS. Performing and interpreting cell based bioassays to pharmacologically characterize ligand potency, efficacy and binding. Performing, assisting with, and interpreting in vivo mouse pain and feeding related experiments. Training, supervising and mentoring undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, and training and mentoring of technicians, staff, and postdoctoral researchers.
20% Research Dissemination Preparing manuscripts, book chapters, and reviews for publication. Participating and presenting at local, national, and international research meetings.
20% Research Funding Procurement Preparing and submitting grant applications to procure research funding.
Required qualifications: (Must be documented) -Advanced degree with substantial research and publication record. -Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as computer literacy (proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) are essential. -Ability to work independently under little to no supervision, reliable and self-motivated. -Ability to meet deadlines and work in a high-paced environment. -Attention to details, highly organized and initiative driven, and excellent organization skills are essential.
Preferred qualifications: -PhD related to medicinal chemistry with at least 5 years of postdoctoral experience. -At least 10 years of experience in solution and solid phase peptide chemistry. -At least 8 years of experience with CEM Discover and LibertyBlue microwave synthesizers. -Advanced Chemtech Vantage and LabTech 1 synthesizers. -Documented ability to troubleshoot/repair peptide synthesizers. -Documented ability to synthesize macrocyclic peptides. -Documented ability to synthesize peptides greater than 25 amino acids in length. -Demonstrated experience using solid-phase extraction cartridges. -At least 8 years of experience on Shimadzu HPLC instrumentation with LabSolutions and ClassVP software. Documented ability to troubleshoot/repair HPLC systems. -At least 8 years of experience on Bruker BioTOFF II ESI/TOF-MS and AB-Sciex 5800 MALDI/TOF-MS systems. -At least 5 years of experience with G protein-coupled receptor bioassays in cells to measure and interpret pharmacological parameters including binding, potency, and efficacy. -At least 5 years’ experience with 2D-NMR spectroscopy and computer assisted molecular modeling. -At least 5 years’ experience with molecular biological techniques. -Record of soliciting and securing research funding. -Record of first-author publications in peer-reviewed medicinal chemistry journals, including the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry and ACS Chemical Neuroscience. -Experience mentoring undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, research technicians, and postdoctoral trainees. -Experience coordinating a research program with national and international collaborators. -Experience working with intellectual property matters, including patents and material-transfer agreements.
