Responsibilities This position reports to the Client Services Director. The incumbent leads the Client Support and Client Implementation teams and functions within the Client Services scope for the UCDH including, but not limited to, the management of staff, services, technology and projects. Must have a strong background managing enterprise level information technology projects along with a strong background in Client Support services and initiatives. Incumbent manages the client support teams and support services in a 7 x 24 x 365 operation. Incumbent must also be a strong leader and a resource to both IT and business leadership regarding information technology trends and usage.
The position involves conceptualization, planning, designing, and implementing complete and integrated information technology client solutions for UCDH, Office of the President and UC Davis campus. Work is based on implementing the vision of top management to establish IT conceptual solutions that is time independent but allows for implementation of specific technologies over time with ability to smoothly transition technology changes. Demonstrates keen understanding of UCDH, Office of the President and campus multi-organizational needs and long-term goals. Researches and prototypes emerging client technologies and approaches. Works on issues that impact project success or address future client concepts, products or technologies. Understands and coordinates initiatives with others including UCDHS, Office of the President and Davis campus when appropriate. This position often serves as consultant to related management efforts.
The incumbent is a key member of the IT management team. Works closely with the CIO, CTO, Client Services Director, and other Managers and IT leaders to provide technology implementations and solutions services for the IT Division and the Health System as a whole. Helps set the client technology direction of the organization. Keeps up with industry trends and make formal recommendations for short/mid/long-term technology strategy for UCDH. Reviews and recommends new or proposed IT hardware, software, and other technologies. Establish, maintain and monitor information technology client standards, best practices and strategies for all UCDH information technology client support technicians.
Represents the IT Division and the Health System to other UC campuses, the UC Office of the President, and to internal and external auditors regarding IT issues and events. Communicates and shares with other UCDH management relevant information and activities outside of UCDH.
Undergraduate degree in computer science, computer engineering, or similar areas (or a similar combination of training and experience).
Extensive experience of 8 years or more supporting windows clients in an enterprise environment and related information technology and services.
Extensive experience of 4 years or more supporting and managing client implementation technology projects and services in an enterprise environment.
Supervisory and/or managerial experience (3 years or more).
Strong leadership skills and the ability to affectively prioritize and multi-task within a dynamic workplace.
Demonstrated enterprise-level experience or knowledge with the following technologies in a Client Support context:
Windows operating systems and x86 hardware
Microsoft Active Directory
Virtualization platforms (VMware and Citrix)
Master's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering field
Relevant professional technical certifications (MCSE, etc.)
Relevant professional business certifications (PMP, Six Sig, etc.)
Detailed knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other tools in the Microsoft Office Suite.
Mentoring, teaching and communication skills necessary for interactions with department staff and other UC employees as necessary.
Strong leadership quality and public presence; able to represent the IT division with customers and most management levels internally and externally.
Knowledge of the principles of quality control and improvement.
