Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Medical Health Technician for the Eric B. Chandler Health Center at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The primary purpose of the Medical Health Technician position is to participate in the performance of health evaluations and phlebotomy duties for infants, children, adults and OB/GYN patients, as assigned, under supervision.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Prepares environment for daily activities.
Assists patients with preparing for physical examination.
Performs Point of Care Testing (e.g. HgbA1c, pregnancy testing, INR, Strep A) as indicated by standing orders or provider written order and documents on appropriate forms.
Performs phlebotomy procedure as ordered, on all age groups of Health Center.
Performs EKG procedure as ordered.
Receives and distributes laboratory results when assigned to laboratory and as needed.
Properly sterilizes equipment for assigned clinic, as per policy.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Completion of an accredited program in Medical Assisting, or its equivalent, plus one (1) year of experience as a medical assistant.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position.
Experience in Venipuncture techniques.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Physical Demands: Ability to stand, talk or hear up to 2/3 time; walk, sit, reach with hands and arms under 1/3 of time. Position requires lifting up to 25 pounds under 1/3 of time. Close vision and ability to adjust focus required.
Work Environment: Moderate noise level.
