Under general direction of a lead worker or supervision by departmental administrator performs highly skilled installation, repair, and preventive maintenance on air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating systems. Provides work direction, training and mentoring of lower-level air quality technicians and/or other trades workers performing craft duties. Must have an established pattern of good work habits and performance with good interpersonal skills.
1. Adheres to all OSHA and/or Ohio University required safety guidelines; 2. Provides work direction, training & mentoring for other lower-level air quality technicians engaged in installation, repair, inspection & maintenance (including preventive maintenance) of air conditioning, refrigeration & heating systems. 3. Reciprocating, centrifugal, screw and scroll chillers: cleans, and repairs; troubleshoots electric fans, controls, compressors, handles refrigerant; 4. Absorption chillers: cleans and repairs; troubleshoots electric fans, controls, pumps, etc. Handles bromide. 5. Dorm, dining & laboratory refrigeration: cleans and repairs; troubleshoots walk-in coolers, freezers, ice machines, compressors, electric controls, pumps, etc. Repairs air conditioning, refrigeration, & heating systems, thermostats, relays, valves controls, compressors, & filters; solders piping as necessary. 6 Periodically inspects & tests installed equipment for proper assembly of components checking for any needed repairs & compliance with technical orders, blueprints schematics, diagrams, specification, handbooks. 7. Installs, repairs, calibrates, and troubleshoots pneumatic, electric, & DDC controls, VAV systems; reads and interprets wiring diagrams, schematics, PID diagrams, piping diagrams, identifies elements of process control ( e.g., sensors, transmitters, variable frequency drives, controllers); installs, splices, and terminates low-voltage connections for control instrumentation wiring; generates new documentation, suggests & makes required modification to system as needed; uses laptop computer and appropriate software to troubleshoot and adjust HVAC controls. 8. Split systems; cleans and repairs; troubleshoots electric fans, controls, compressors, solenoid valves, etc. Installs & operates refrigeration, air conditioning, & heating units. 9. Performs inventory control, work scheduling. Completes necessary documentation. Uses computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). 10. Cleans and repairs window units, troubleshoots electric fans and compressors. Repairs, maintains , troubleshoots, and installs air compressors. 11. Performs other related duties as required.
1. Journey-level working knowledge of air conditioning and heating technology; 2. Skill in installation and maintenance of air conditioning, refrigeration and heating equipment; 3. Read and write common vocabulary in sentence structure; 4. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, calculate fractions, decimals and percentages; 5. Ability to apply principles to solve practical problems; 6. Ability to carry out instructions in written, oral and pictorial form; 7. Work independently or with others; 8. Demonstrate willingness to work with diverse populations; 9. Demonstrate dexterity and skill in use of craft-associated hand and/or power tools and equipment; 10. Knowledge of all applicable OSHA and/or Ohio University guidelines and procedures; 11. Work at heights; 12. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.; 13. 48 months skilled experience in HVAC, refrigeration, controls or equivalent; 14. EPA refrigerant handling certification; 15. Successful completion of any pertinent tests may be required. Written and practical test may be required 16. Valid driver's license 17. Proficient use of personal computer and Windows operating system. 18. May be exposed to dirt, grease, odors, cramped conditions, extreme hot or cold temperatures, heights, and electrical hazards; may be exposed to dangerous machinery; confined spaces. An established pattern of good work habits and performance with good interpersonal skills.
