We are seeking a Student Loan Specialist to join our Student Loan Collections team in Financial Operations. The Student Loan Collections area provides billing, collection and other student loan services in accordance with federal and university policies. This position serves an important role in performing administrative duties associated with the university’s student loans.
Review enrollment status of borrowers for separation, based on data in the National Student Clearinghouse.
Review and correct enrollment status inconsistencies between our third-party student loan processing system (ECSI) and enrollment reports from the Office of the Registrar.
Perform administrative procedures related to the processing of student loan deferments, hardships, forbearances, service cancellations, loan consolidations and temporary disabilities.
Confirm data on loan verification forms received for loan consolidations.
Review bankruptcy discharge reports.
Process debt service checks received using remote deposit capture.
Assist with incoming phone calls.
Other duties as assigned.
Completion of high school education, with college degree preferred
Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks with varied deadlines
Demonstrated ability to contribute to a positive work environment; ability to work independently and in a team setting
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with a variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds
Strong customer service focus
Working knowledge of PCs and desktop software, preferably Microsoft Office Suite and Google Gmail
Clerical experience in a business office or university setting.
Knowledge of university policies involving institutional loans.
Knowledge of federal regulations governing student loan programs.
Experience with student loan servicing software (ECSI helpful).
Experience working with complex student administration systems (Oracle PeopleSoft helpful).
