Academic Affairs is the largest of the vice chancellor areas at UC San Diego. Led by the Executive Vice Chancellor (EVC), it is comprised of seven academic divisions and schools, six undergraduate colleges, the University Libraries and University Extension. The vice chancellor area also includes academic support units, as well as the units under the purview of the Vice Chancellors of Student Affairs and Equity, Diversity & Inclusion. Academic Affairs annually manages expenditures in excess of $750M, 2.7M ASF of space and employs over 13,500 academic, staff and research employees. The Office of the EVC supports the EVC in driving strategy for undergraduate and graduate education, administering academic policy and procedure communication and implementation, and is responsible for resource administration, training and guidance, and program development for administrators, faculty, and staff within the EVC's purview.
Under the direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Educational Innovation (AVC-EI) the incumbent provides high-level professional support to Academic Affairs and the campus in the planning, appraisal, analysis and implementation of major programs, strategic initiatives and special projects related to all aspects of summer academic and co-curricular programs on campus. Participates in long- and short-range planning, and advises on complex and important issues affecting campus as it relates to summer. Collaborates with partners to coordinate the development, implementation and monitoring of new programs and processes. Develops and implements transition plans as projects are completed to ensure that unit personnel are able to continue managing business processes on an ongoing basis.
This position provides high level oversight and coordination of AVC-EI initiatives and their implementation, functions with a high degree of responsibility for identifying objectives, formulating strategies, directing programs and initiatives, managing people to achieve objectives, and reporting outcomes. Identify bottlenecks, develop modifications, and implement changes through cross-functional teams. Identify programs and studies designed to measure efficiency and effectiveness of current policies, procedures and business practices. Provide leadership, consultation and guidance to project team members as needed, ensuring they are clear on directions and towards achieving the vision of the executive sponsors.
Uses advanced operational concepts and objectives to resolve highly complex issues. Regularly works on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Primarily deals with programs and proposals with broad impact across the function, research initiative, program and / or organization. Develops and oversees the implementation of new programs and processes.

Demonstrated experience working with faculty and administrators to coordinate complex academic programs.
Advanced project management skills. Includes demonstrated ability to set project objectives, determine and address potential barriers; identify required resources, identify process steps and milestones; and adjust action plans to achieve desired outcomes.
Strong demonstrated experience managing resources, budgets, revenue projections and accurately estimating program costs and revenue. Experience budgeting expenses and projecting revenue streams.
Experience with student success programs and knowledge of methodologies used to enhance student achievement.
Thorough knowledge of organizational or initiative processes, protocols and procedures. Proven ability to guide the efforts of cross-organizational work groups, and to build consensus among a broad spectrum of diverse constituencies and at varying organizational levels.
Advanced knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques. Proven ability to make recommendations and take actions based on understanding and judgment of all factors involved and based on independent interpretation and application of various disciplines involved.
