The Department of Nutrition Sciences (DNS), School of Health Professions (SHP) at The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) announces a full-time 12-month tenure-track Assistant Professor Faculty position. The successful candidate is expected to have research expertise in dietary and/or physical activity effects on energy balance, appetite regulation, and body weight regulation. The successful candidate will be expected to join a team of investigators working on an online multi-site obesity-related project called The International Weight Control Registry (IWCR). In particular, this individual will be expected to seek extramural funding for and to help lead ancillary studies and sub-studies to the IWCR as part of their independent research program in DNS.
UAB has historically been involved in nutrition and our Dietetic Internship program was established in 1963. DNS has robust programs in obesity, diabetes, and cancer, and sponsors two NIH research centers (Diabetes Research and Training Center, Nutrition and Obesity Research Center). SHP is one of the nation's largest and most diverse schools of its type with more than 20 programs at the baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral levels. SHP is one of six medically focused schools in a thriving academic health center. UAB is among the highest tier of US research institutions, and SHP is currently ranked in the top three for NIH funding for similar schools.
