Job Description Summary The Intercollegiate Athletic and Club Sports Trainer is responsible for providing athletic healthcare for both the Intercollegiate Athletics and Club Sports. Time will be split between regular hours in the athletic training room and on-site coverage of home competitions. This position reports to the Head Athletic Trainer with a dotted-line to the Director of Recreation and Club Sports.
Collect, organize, and review all annual medical paperwork necessary for eligibility for Intercollegiate Athletic and Club Sport participation and ensure all athletes are cleared to play.
Attend to the medical needs of any intercollegiate or club sport athlete and take the appropriate steps necessary to prevent, recognize, evaluate, and assess athletic injuries. Keep accurate and complete computerized records of all work performed (documenting and reporting athletic injuries and logging all rehabilitation or treatment notes).
Determine when an athlete is cleared to return to practice or competition after sustaining an injury and communicate accordingly within the department.
Refer student-athletes to specialized physicians for additional evaluations or treatment when necessary and administer rehabilitative services as prescribed by the athlete's doctor as time and resources permit. Follow all state regulations and Bentley University policies when evaluating and treating for reported concussions.
Keep an accurate inventory of all athletic training equipment and supplies and send purchase requests to the Director of Recreation and Club Sports.
Meet with each Club Sports team at the beginning of the season to introduce oneself and give an overview of one's role within the Club Sports Program.
Educate and counsel athletes on topics related to injury prevention, wellness, or other health-related issues as needed and requested by athletes, teams, or the Director of Recreation and Club Sports.
Be knowledgeable about the mission of the Intercollegiate Athletic and Club Sports program and familiarize oneself with relevant policies and procedure.
Assist with the medical needs of Intercollegiate Athletic teams per the request of the Head Athletic Trainer
Master's degree and 2-3 years of college experience required.
Extensive knowledge in the field of Athletic Training.
Certification by the National Athletic Trainer's Association Board of Certification (NATABOC).
Massachusetts State Athletic Training Licensure or in the process of obtaining.
Familiarity with NCAA rules.
Must hold and maintain a valid, unrestricted United States driver's license, with an insurable driving history as determined by Bentley's insurance carrier.
Extensive technical knowledge in the field of Athletic Training Theoretical and practical applications of medical skills.
Knowledge of psychological counseling and ability to triage specific problems and make appropriate referrals.
Specific competencies include care and compassion for the student-athletes, strong communication skills, the ability to work with a team, and a positive attitude.
Nights and weekend work is required.
Some heavy lifting, with outdoor work regardless of weather conditions.
Exposed to loud noise due to the nature of collegiate athletics on a daily basis.
At times, for Intercollegiate Athletics, overnight or day travel may be required; must be available "on-call" when needed.
There is a large amount of physical skill required, as well as heavy lifting. Some examples are demonstrating an exercise for rehab; setting up a field for a game; carrying water jugs; carrying emergency equipment; helping lift an injured athlete off the field; manual therapy.
