USC Human Resources is currently undergoing a transformation to elevate and modernize processes, policies and technologies. This role is being hired as a part of the transformation to enable certain strategic projectsÂ in high priority, critical areasÂ such as the ongoing development and support of the Onboarding program and other related, ongoing transformational work.Â
The Manager, Onboarding will design and oversee the seamless implementation of the onboarding strategy and associated processes, ensuring a positive, informative and welcoming transition and onboarding experience for all university hires. This role will shape all aspects of the onboarding process and empower their team to coordinate with talent acquisition to seamlessly transition new hires into employees. The Manager of Onboarding will develop an onboarding strategy that leverages technology to automate manual onboarding processes and communications. They will coordinate with administrative and academic unit leadership to continuously improve the onboarding experience. This role will manage close relationships with unit leadership, hiring managers, and the talent acquisition team to ensure new hires have the necessary information, resources, working space, tools and equipment on day one. Having a broad knowledge of HR functionality, this role will oversee onboarding resource and information coordination to facilitate a strategic orientation that engages employees early in the process. This role will execute USCâs vision while championing USCâs culture and values.
The candidate for the position of Manager, Onboarding must meet the following qualifications:
A Bachelorâs degree in business, psychology, communications or another related field.
Seven or more years of experience in human resources (onboarding, recruiting, talent acquisition) or business administration.
One or more years of experience leading teams in a management or leadership role.
Experience serving as the point of contact for incoming employees providing information, direction and coaching for the completion of documentation and onboardingÂ processes.Â
Prior experience and confidence in leading and managing in-person and/or virtual teams.
ExperienceÂ facilitating anÂ organized, welcoming,Â new hire orientation on a regular schedule and in both a virtual and in-person setting.
Demonstrated ability to design or create onboarding materials.Â Â
Demonstrated expertise collaborating with HR and other departments to ensure access to systems, technology, physical space and tools in accordance with employee start dates.Â

The candidate for the position of Manager, Onboarding will be responsible for:
Managing and directing theÂ overall onboarding strategy and session and experience frameworksÂ of the university. Providing guidance to onboarding team in executing the onboarding strategy. Demonstrating expert knowledge ofÂ universityÂ systemsÂ andÂ toolsÂ toÂ provide supportÂ and expertise toÂ new hires.Â Setting high standards for and empowering onboarding specialists to create a streamlined, educational onboarding experience for newÂ employees. Working closely with leaders across the HR organization to create a seamless onboarding experience. Demonstrating and continually advancing knowledge of onboarding best practices, considering the complexities of a university environment.Â
Leading the development and implementation of well rounded, documented, and consistent in-person and virtual onboarding procedures for new hires from all over the university. Serving as a main point of communication and face of the University during onboarding phases. Supporting Onboarding Specialists in coordinating with HR teams, ITS and hiring to ensure university access, tools and workspace is ready on Day 1.
Designing an onboarding experience focused on timely and consistent delivery. Prioritizing an excellent new hire experience when planning the onboarding processes and facilitating orientation. Building assessment mechanisms into processes for clients and stakeholders. Using data insights to constantly improve onboarding processes. Anticipating and forecasting shifting needs and timelines.
Collaborating cross functionally with managers from across the university and recruiters to design and oversee onboarding programs for a seamless onboarding experience. Employing active listening when working with clients on new goals in order to effectively respond to their needs. Maintaining open lines of communication with other HR functions and university stakeholders.
Driving and implementing innovation that will automate processes and streamline the new hire experience. Pioneering planningÂ to accommodateÂ different abilities of new employees.Â Championing innovation and continuous improvement in operationsÂ and processes.Â Applying creative strategies to complex goals and being willing to pivot based on fluctuating needs. Continuously upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of innovative theories and best practices.
