The Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity seeks a Research Assistant 2 to conduct studies centered on food policy, nutrition, and obesity.
Under the direction of Dr. Fran Fleming-Milici, Ph.D., at the Rudd Center for Food Policy & Obesity, the full-time Research Assistant 2 will conduct studies centered on food policy, nutrition, and obesity. Research topics will include studies on children's and adolescents' food advertising exposure on television, the Internet, social and other media, and the effects of exposure to food marketing on eating behaviors, nutrition, and health. The work location will be at the UConn Rudd Center at One Constitution Plaza in Hartford, Connecticut.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise data collection, entry, and analysis, including working with internal and external databases.
Record and compile information related to research data. Code data according to research specifications, which may include coding videos of televised commercials or other forms of food marketing.
Process and analyze data using SPSS or similar statistical programs (e.g., SAS, Stata)
Develop survey methodology (questionnaires, surveys, observations) and coding procedures.
Write sections of comprehensive Rudd Center reports on food marketing.
Provide presentations of research to communities (town and school groups), university groups, and professional meetings and conferences.
Conceptualize, design, and implement research ideas.
Interact with institutional and outside contacts.
Train research assistants working on relevant projects at the Rudd Center.
The position requires a B.A. or B.S. and two to three years of post-degree experience, or an M.A. or M.S. and from no experience to one year of post-degree experience. Concentrations in Public Health, Public Policy, Psychology, Sociology, or related disciplines are required.
Excellent verbal and writing skills.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills, ability to multi-task and thrive working independently and within a team environment.
Good quantitative skills and strong attention to detail.
Experience in an academic research setting.
Experience recruiting and running study subjects.
Knowledge of research design and methods.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Knowledge of SPSS or a similar statistical package.
Experience in public speaking/presentations.
