The USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalismâs Office of Communication and Marketing seeks to hire an enthusiastic professional to join its high-performing team. Reporting to the Chief Creative Content Officer, the Digital Content Specialist will have several key responsibilities in this position.Â
A primary focus will be on creating content and managing the schoolâs social media channels, as well asÂ writing diverse content for the schoolâs website. The digital content specialist will also post news stories to the website and build and distribute USC Annenbergâs email newsletters to faculty, staff and students.Â
Primary Responsibilities: Social Media
Shape, execute and monitor USC Annenbergâs social media presence across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and others.
Create exceptional storytelling experiences on social media with the aim to grow audiences and engagement.
Develop and implement a social media strategy and content calendar that ensures dynamic and engaging content cycling.
Cultivate relationships with social influencers at USC Annenberg for possible collaborations and creative development.
Track analytics across social platforms on an ongoing basis to understand trends and to inform best practices. Analyze, review and report on effectiveness of campaigns and make recommendations to maximize results.
Remain abreast of current events and trends in the social media industry to maintain competitive edge.
Primary Responsibilities: Website and email communications
Post and edit news content provided by the creative content team to annenberg.usc.edu. This includes content revisions.
Edit photos for inclusion in news stories and email newsletters.
Make recommendations regarding copy formatting, image selections, placement and editing in accordance with the USC Annenberg Style Guidelines.Â
Meet with and build relationships, as necessary, with other stakeholders throughout the school to assist with posting of news stories.
Build and distribute the school's email newsletters to students and faculty/staff.Â
Primary Responsibilities: Writing
Write and edit profiles, news stories, and features about faculty, students, alumni, donors and events.
Research information, interview sources and verify facts. Read, proof, edit and revise copy for all written material.
Manage and complete multiple assignments, often with competing deadlines.
Build relationships with constituents such as faculty, administrators, students and alumni to encourage cross-promotion of all content and to stay up-to-date with faculty research and campus news and events.
Undertake special projects and assignments and other duties as assigned.
Excellent writing skills and an ability to develop and write for a range of editorial voices.
Experience creating and managing a brandâs social media presence, content, and campaigns across current and emerging social platforms.
Experience with social media analytics and reporting.
Demonstrated understanding of refining messages to meet audience needs, through production of clear, credible, relevant and impactful content.
Excellent command of the English language and facility in spelling, grammar, usage, and style consistent with professional writing and editing standards.
Ability to compose clear and concise communications.
Demonstrated attention to detail, consistency, and accuracy.
Proven proficiency in posting, editing and administering content in websites driven by Content Management Systems (CMS) such as Drupal, WordPress, Squarespace, etc.
Basic working knowledge of HTML.
Demonstrated basic image editing skills and proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) or similar graphic editing tools.
Working knowledge of creating email marketing campaigns in email marketing services such as Mailchimp and Constant Contact.
Interpersonal skills to develop and maintain close working relationships with academic leaders, colleagues, faculty, staff, students and supporters.
Ability to initiate activities independently and organize, prioritize and complete work in a timely manner amidst competing deadlines and requests.
Team player, outstanding interpersonal communication skills and self-starter. Works collaboratively with colleagues, clients and vendors.

Preferred Education: Bachelorâs degree in communication, creative writing/English, marketing, advertising, businessÂ and or a related field.
Preferred Experience: 2-3 years of professional writing and social media management experience and experience posting content to websites. Experience in higher education is preferred.
