RESEARCH SPECIALIST/SENIOR INNOVATION STRATEGIST , Political Science-MIT Governance Lab (MIT GOV/LAB) , to support initiatives that apply human-centered design; social, political, and behavioral science; and technology to governance-related projects . Will conduct user research and strategy development to advance GOV/LAB's approach to governance innovation; apply human-centered design methodologies to facilitate and pilot processes, models, and training experiences for governance innovation in the Global South; co-design and co-facilitate innovation workshops for government officials and other stakeholders; track and evaluate the progress of innovation and research activities under agile frameworks and adjust project pace/direction accordingly; design engaging and thoughtful graphics; contribute to a variety of communication materials; and perform additional responsibilities as determined by organizational needs.
Job Requirements REQUIRED : bachelor's degree; four years' professional experience; expertise in qualitative research methods and human-centered design, design thinking, participatory design, or related areas; experience working on interdisciplinary and/or international teams and demonstrated integration skills; self-motivation and ability to work in a dynamic and ambiguous environment; ability to interact with and represent GOV/LAB to partners; project management skills and experience with online collaboration tools; ability to present ideas in a visually appealing manner, including proficiency with graphic design and the Adobe Suite, especially Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop; and excellent writing and communication skills. PREFERRED : master's degree; UX, UI, visual or product design experience; background in innovation strategy and/or social, political, or behavioral science; professional experience in the Global South, preferably sub-Saharan Africa, and in the public sector or applied social sciences; experience establishing networks of innovators across countries and bridging the gap between academics and practitioners; and experience with projects related to trust, digitization, accountability, citizen engagement, and transparency in the public sector.
