ACCESS SERVICES ASSISTANT , MIT Libraries-Barker and Rotch Libraries , to assist with circulation, reserves, and service desk operations; handle physical space management; and assist patrons using library equipment and systems. Responsibilities include providing in-person assistance regarding library services, collections, and equipment; interpreting policies/procedures for users and providing information about access to collections and space; opening/closing the library; reporting facilities and safety incidents/issues; training staff and student employees; assisting with developing documentation/training materials; participating in book searching, shelving, collecting statistics, financial transactions, sorting and delivering library materials, and identifying opportunities for service improvements; performing some processing of materials; participating on committees/teams/groups/projects; participating in the pick-up, sorting, delivery, check-in, and return of materials between library units; and other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED : high school diploma or equivalent; six-months' direct/related experience that provided an understanding of library or service functions; experience using library catalogs and basic business software (e.g., MS Office, e-mail, calendar); interest in mastering new software/systems/technology; strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills; initiative; flexibility; good attendance record; tolerance for exposure to dust; and a valid driver's license, ability to operate a motor vehicle, and good driving record. Must be able to work independently and collaboratively with a diverse group of people; manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a diverse and dynamic environment; and lift 40 lbs., move loaded carts up to 150 lbs., and shelve library materials. PREFERRED : college degree or related coursework; academic and/or research library experience; basic training or teaching experience; experience with library-specific software used at MIT (e.g., Aleph, Alma, ILLiad/RAPID ILL); and experience compiling, manipulating, and presenting data (e.g., Excel, Access, Tableau). Hourly rate: $18.69/hour minimum, with actual rate based on qualifications and experience.
