The Senior Assistant Director position is part of the Undergraduate Admissions Office team, working directly on designing the visit experience, focused on helping the University meet its goals of enrolling a talented and diverse student body. This position is responsible for the recruitment, evaluation, selection, and yield of applicants and is also responsible for planning and leading special projects or programs.
Duties include leading, managing, organizing, and staffing recruitment events and programs; managing student interns and volunteer opportunities; providing counseling and service to students and families about the University and the college decision process; reviewing and evaluating applications to render admission decisions; and developing and maintaining relationships with school counselors and others. This position represents the University and office internally and externally.
The Senior Assistant Director position manages one or more project or program areas within the Admissions Office and supports other projects as assigned. The position plans, coordinates, and executes programming related to these project area(s); provides guidance and leadership to carry out these projects; ensures projects are well implemented; and conducts analysis to evaluate project effectiveness.Â Strong professional judgment, initiative, flexibility, and a collaborative mindset are required.
The position will be located in an open office environment. As conditions merit, this position may be required to work remotely. Travel and attendance at many events on and off campus is necessary, which may include international travel. Travel expectation is 6 - 8 weeks per year. Must transport recruitment materials to high school visits, college fairs, and group meetings. Work outside of normal business hours is necessary throughout the year.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Student Staff Management:
Oversee current student intern and volunteer positions having to do with the visitor experience. Strategically develop and implement training, development, and recognition programs. Manage day-to-day staffing. Think creatively and innovatively; use data to inform, enrich, and implement projects and programs. Ensure that all on-campus visitors have the best possible experience that will encourage them to apply. Work collaboratively with the Associate Director of the Visit Experience to ensure that the vision is implemented in a professional, welcoming way. Work with the marketing communications group to develop collateral and swag. Â
Lead, plan, and manage project or program area(s) as assigned. Develop and execute programming, processes, and procedures related to project area(s). If applicable, maintain program budget(s) based on guidelines set by departmentâ™s budget leadership. Collaborate with colleagues, supervisor, and departmental leadership (as needed) to ensure project success.
Provide support to other project area(s) and program(s) as assigned by supervisor and/or departmental leadership. Â
Manage recruitment territory that involves travel and interactions with students, parents, and counselors at high school visits, college fairs, panels, and other college recruitment activities. Provide admissions advice to prospective students and families. Conduct workshops on college admissions. Work closely with high school counselors and Community Based Organizations (CBOs) to develop strong relationships for the University. Excellent communication skills and knowledge about the University and admissions are critical. Must maintain a professional attitude at all times as a representative of the University. Â
Application Evaluation and Selection Process:
Review and evaluate applications and participate on (or lead) committees to make admissions recommendations and decisions aligned with institutional goals. Confidentiality and thoughtful consideration of applicants are a must. Must have the ability to work independently following admissions guidelines; lead and participate in discussions and decision-making processes; keep pace with reading expectations; and meet all deadlines throughout the reading season. Â
Conduct information sessions about the University and Admissions for prospective students and families. Provide customer service by answering phone calls and emails from prospective students and parents. Interview prospective students who visit campus. Answer questions about the University, admissions, and St. Louis. Â
Work with faculty, deans, and representatives from other departments at the University to support recruitment and enrollment efforts. Must be able to make mature decisions and recommendations.
Perform other duties as assigned. Â
This position requires heavy use of the computer, including an electronic application reading system in the office and at home.Â The ability to lift/move up to 20 lbs. is required.
Previous project management or budgeting skills.

Five years of significant work experience in admissions or related areas.

$45,800.00 - $75,900.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
