Ohio University Zanesville is seeking candidates for an Advising and Retention Specialist. Available September 15, 2021.
The Advising and Retention Specialist provides proactive academic support services to students as they strive to achieve their academic goals. This position works collaboratively with Student Services, faculty and staff to provide resources and programs in the areas of advising, academic support, and student engagement.
This position is necessary to support student retention and degree progression and completion. Additional responsibilities include:
1) Advising: Provides essential information to students regarding program and course requirements, including course selection, majors, and registration processes. Provides support to new, continuing and CC+ students throughout each semester and during the summer. Counsels students on degree progress, course load recommendations, academic and co-curricular achievements, and academic obstacles and challenges. Connects students to campus resources as possible. 2) Retention: Manage and maintain the early alert system (MyOHIO Success Network) and serve as the first point of contact for early alert referrals. Design and implement appropriate interventions for students. Coordinate and implement program activities which enhance student engagement, academic success, and retention of students. Prepare reports as necessary. 3) Student Engagement: Plan, organize and supervise various student-centered educational, recreational and social events and initiatives. Work with communication and external relations coordinator to develop strategies that promote campus activities and services to maximize student involvement. Maintain and regularly publish an up-to-date calendar of events and activities. 4) Additional Support Services: Assist in the coordination of student services activities and initiatives, including student orientations, recruiting events, and Bobcat Blitz events. Assist with training of Student Ambassadors. Assist with administrative tasks.
Bachelor's Degree and at least three (3) years of related work experience required.
Master's Degree in Higher Education Leadership, College Student Personnel or related field preferred.
