Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Advanced Practice Nurse for the department of Medicine at the Rutgers, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The primary purpose of the Advanced Practice Nurse position is to serve as an expert in the delivery of advanced nursing care with regard to Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Gastrointestinal Motility.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
In collaboration with attending physicians, maintains responsibility for the coordination and direct care of patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD, ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease) and gastrointestinal motility disorders, maintains clinical protocols as necessary, and provides patient education.
Responsible for patient care in a high-volume outpatient environment and shows flexibility and makes independent decisions.
Expertly handles unexpected and highly sensitive situations related to IBD and motility disorders.
Assists physicians in evaluating patients and providing diagnoses and treatment plans during outpatient visit.
Performs full medical histories and physical examinations, formulates diagnoses, treatment plans, and orders on patients seen in outpatient clinic.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to assess patients over the phone, accurately triage non-urgent and urgent patient calls, and provide accurate and safe telephone advice.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to function in a team environment.
Basic word processing and computer skills.
ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support).
One (1) year of direct patient experience.
One (1) year experience with electronic medical records.
