Reporting into Wendy Garrett, MD PhD. Dr. Garrett, the Research Assistant studies host-microbiota interactions with a focus on the gastrointestinal immune system and the gut microbiota, and their roles in health, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), colorectal cancer, and infectious disease progression. Dr. Garrett's laboratory seeks to shed light on microbial metabolism and how it influences immune system function — areas that are quite poorly understood. Another major area of focus in Dr. Garrett's laboratory is harnessing DNA sequencing technologies and analytical methods to illuminate causal relationships between gut microbes and disease.
