POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE , Chemistry , to work in the Pentelute laboratory on implementing chemical methods for the rapid production of synthetic proteins using an in-house, fully automated flow synthesis platform. The project aims to decipher the stereochemical determinants of protein-protein interactions by investigating the peptide binding modes to synthetic proteins. Will leverage Pentelute Lab protein synthesis and folding technologies combined with its industry partner's rapid peptide binder discovery engine. Will also develop new methods for the synthesis of hybrid peptide-nucleobase biopolymers and create new organic chemistry tactics that enable the routine incorporation of non-natural amino acids and defined post-translational modifications. Will join a vibrant, diverse, and highly interdisciplinary lab environment comprised of chemical biologists, organic chemists, biochemists, data scientists, and engineers. Responsibilities include operating and maintaining automated instruments for solid-phase synthesis in flow, producing synthetic protein chains containing canonical and non-canonical amino acids, purifying the synthetic proteins by liquid chromatography, and characterizing them in solution by analytical chromatography methods. Sequence analysis, point mutations, and flow chemistry optimization will be performed when necessary to improve synthesis outcomes for selected proteins. Will also train lab members on the new methodologies.

Job Requirements REQUIRED : Ph.D. in organic chemistry or related field, strong track record in organic synthesis methodology development, excellent communication skills, and willingness to train lab members. PREFERRED : experience with the operation of flow chemistry systems, solid-phase synthesis of peptides, mass spectrometry, and/or chromatographic separation methods; and expertise with chemical modification of peptides.
