UW Medical Center - Northwest has an outstanding opportunity for a VARIABLE/FULL-TIME DAYS, SENIOR ANESTHESIA TECHNICIAN. The Anesthesia Technician provides technical and clinical assistance, under the direction of an anesthesiologist, in monitoring and preparing the patient for anesthesia, within the Operating Room and/or in other departments within the hospital.
1.Provides patient care / anesthesia assistance for assigned cases includes but is not limited to: •Provides basic patient care consistent with nursing unit and Anesthesia standards. •Assists the Anesthesiologist with intubation and extubation. •Assists with placements of invasive lines. •Sets up cell savers. •Assists with positioning patients during regional blocks. •Transports patients to ICU; connects monitoring and ventilation devices. •Prepares and operates anesthesia equipment such as blood gas analyzers, patient monitors, ventilators. Plugs in gases and scavenging. Places clean CO2 tubing on CO2 monitors. Calibrates O2 sensors. •Reports clear information to surgical team and anesthesiologist.
2.Coordinates anesthesia equipment and supplies includes but is not limited to: •Checks par levels and expiration dates for pharmaceuticals and supplies. Places orders and picks up from Pharmacy or Stores as necessary. •Stocks carts with supplies. Delivers anesthesia carts to appropriate OR (physician specific). •Secures Anesthesia carts and Anesthesia workroom supplies at end of shift.
3.Collaboration and Communication, includes but is not limited to: •Coordinates and collaborates effectively with other members of a multi-disciplinary team, including MDs, RNs, and other medical support personnel. •Provides constructive feedback and supports team-based care. •Effectively communicates with other staff members and management to assure continuous service to patients and timely resolution of issues. •Supports patient satisfaction and customer service initiatives. •Assists with orientation and skill development of new employees.
4.Patient Safety, includes but is not limited to: •Utilizes sterile/aseptic technique and abides by AORN standards and NWHMC protocols and standards. •Demonstrates knowledge and appropriate use of infection control plans, surgical count, medication safety, safe lifting techniques, transfer devices, etc. •Minimizes patients’ safety risks by following defined protocols, policies and procedures. •Participates in achieving established Patient Safety Goals. •Participates in emergency management as assigned.
