The Strategy and Environment (SE) Faculty group in the Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University in Houston, Texas, invites applications for an assistant professor (tenure-track) position in the area of strategic management. The appointment will be as of July 1, 2022. Successful candidates are expected to produce high-quality research in the area of strategic management that results in publications in top journals in the field.
Rice University is a private research university located in Houston, Texas. It has been consistently ranked among the top 20 national universities in the U.S. The Jones School offers a variety of degree programs and recently launched a Business Major for Rice University undergraduates. The SE group currently comprises 11 full-time faculty members: Prashant Kale, Balaji Koka, Haiyang Li (Area Coordinator), Kate Odziemkowska, Alessandro Piazza, Peter Rodriguez (Dean), Douglas Schuler, Laszlo Tihanyi (AMJ Editor), Duane Windsor, Annie Zavyalova, and Anthea Zhang (SMS President-Elect). It launched a Ph.D. program in 2011 and its doctoral graduates have been placed at American University, Peking University, Renmin University of China, Southern Methodist University, Texas A&M University, University of Cincinnati, University of Illinois Chicago, and University of Miami. It is a diverse, collegial, and research-productive group, with close collaboration among faculty and doctoral students. Research support, teaching requirements, and salary are highly competitive.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in strategic management or related field and an established record of excellence in scholarly research and teaching. A strong commitment to bachelor's, master's, and Ph.D. education is expected.
The application deadline is September 15, 2021, but applications will be accepted until the search is closed. Applications must include (1) a cover letter, (2) a curriculum vitae, (3) three reference letters, (4) two representative papers, and (4) copies of recent teaching evaluations (if available).
We plan to conduct initial interviews online and invite finalists to Houston for campus interviews (if conditions allow).
