Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer, the incumbent will be responsible for managing the day-to-day employer/employee and labor relations functions.
Specific duties include: providing guidance to managers and employees on counseling, discipline, performance management, policy interpretation, grievance procedures, union contract compliance and other employee/labor relations matters. The incumbent will also be responsible for overseeing the Performance Management Process (PMP), participating in collective bargaining contract negotiations (FOP and AFSCME) and shared governance, representing management at grievance meetings/hearing, representing management at unemployment hearings, serving as lead at Labor Management Committee meetings, developing and conducting training in the area of employee/labor relations, and performing other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Human Resources Management, legal studies or a related area (JD or relevant Master’s Degree preferred). The successful candidate must have at least five years (seven preferred) of related work experience. Note: A JD and/or a Master's Degree may be substituted for two years of the required five years of experience.
Must have strong: interpersonal, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills; ability to exercise independent judgment in the interpretation and application of employment laws, regulations, policies and guidelines as it relates to employment/labor relations; the ability to exercise tact, diplomacy and compassion in dealing with sensitive, complex and confidential human resource issues and employee situations (such as employee separations); and working knowledge of current state and federal discrimination and employment laws and regulations required. Must have strong computer skills, especially in MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
JD or relevant Master’s Degree preferred.
Seven years of related work experience preferred.
Experience in higher education or the public sector strongly desired.
