The EEG Technologist Registered will maintain Long Term Monitoring EEG recordings; monitor and review LTM data, and record and set-up electroencephalographic tests on patients with a variety of illnesses, providing accurate data for interpretation by Electroencephlographer(s).
Explain test procedures to pediatric patients and guardians, and instruct patients in proper positioning, both before and during the recording. (Nointerpretation of test can be given at any time in front of the patient.)
Apply electrodes to predetermined measured placements as to the International 10-20 System and check the performance of the electrodes.
Calibrate and adjust equipment to be sure it is in proper working condition.
Take standard recordings from patients in any condition.
Instruct patient on how to relax and cooperate for any type of electro-neuro-diagnostic test, reducing artifact as much as possible.
Perform special electroencephalographic tests to localize infarct/injury to the nervous system.
Monitor and record all unusual and abnormal physiological occurrences.
Monitor other vital signs such as eye movement, respiration, muscle and heart rate.
Perform brain activating procedures such as hyperventilation, photic stimulation and sleep when not contraindicated.
Perform portable recordings in any such area as determined by the appropriate ordering physician.
Obtain and record any relevant information from the patient, MiChart or any part of the medical record.
Determine the cause of equipment failure, if any, and trouble shoot as needed.
Report machine malfunctions to IT team or supervisor as soon as possible.
Replenish supplies and maintain proper universal precautions.
Attend weekly in-service training lectures and workshop.
High school graduation with basic science course work or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.
Basic knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the body is necessary.
EEG Technologist Registered title requires certification by the American Board of Registration for Electroencephalographic Technologist, and/or Polysomnography registration or equivalent certification
Satisfactory completion of college courses in the physiological and biological sciences is desirable.
Work scheduled will be assigned by the Pediatric Epilepsy Technical Supervisor / Coordinator. Work schedule may include shifts during the 24 hour, 7 day/week operations of the LTM, EEG and Epilepsy Laboratories. Participation in 24 hours on call schedule and overtime as assigned. Mandatory overtime may be possible.
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
