The Office of Global Activities leads the School of Social Work’s international engagement. This includes connecting Masters in Social Work (MSW) students to international social work opportunities through funding, special programs, academic resources, internationalized curriculum, and arranging faculty and student exchanges at partner institutions. The office reports to the Associate Dean for Educational Programs and is led by the Director of the Office of Global Activities. The office staff also includes 1-2 graduate student staff. The Office of Global Activities' current initiatives includes student and faculty exchanges, global field placements, independent study funding, conference travel grants, a faculty-led program, and an exchange visitor program.
The Global Opportunity Coordinator is responsible for advising social work students on global activities, supporting exchange visitors to the School, and assisting with general operations of the office. The Global Opportunity Coordinator will advise prospective and current MSW students about the various global education opportunities and will assist them in all stages of their experience. Additionally, this position will provide the primary support for all international exchange visitors coming to the School of Social Work including visiting students and faculty. This position reports to the Office of Global Activities Director.
30% Program Administration and Advising Function as the main contact for MSW students interested in or currently completing a global experience.
Manage all aspects of the Global Independent Study grant including advising students on how to design and integrate a global experience into their MSW program
Assist with the management and advising for the Global Activities Scholars Program and Peace Corps Masters International programs
Meet with students during walk-in hours and scheduled meetings
Create relevant program resource, marketing materials, and manage web content
Organize information sessions on the various opportunities and application processes
Manage the application and admissions processes including communicating with students, scheduling interviews, creating and maintaining administrative excel sheets, managing the online application management system, and collecting missing application components if necessary
Organize and run the annual pre-departure orientation, and coordinate the accompanying community engagement session
Ensure compliance with UM health and safety policies and requirements listed in the Standard Practice Guides
Develop and implement evaluation plans used to initiate process and program improvements
35% International Student, Scholar, and Faculty Support
Manage the H1B, Permanent Residency, and other visa processes for faculty and staff hires in coordination with the School of Social Work Human Resources staff
Provide logistical support as needed to all international visitors to the School including exchange students, visiting research students, and visiting scholars
Manage the DS-2019 request process for all exchange students, visiting research students, visiting scholars, and their families on J1 and J2 visa in collaboration with the UM Shared Service Center and the International Center
Work with the office of the Associate Dean of Faculty and Academic Affairs to manage the request and application process for visiting research students and visiting scholars
Work with the Office of Student Services to manage the application process for exchange students from partner institutions
Provide logistical support for exchange students from partner institutions while they prepare for and complete a field placement in Ann Arbor
Support degree-seeking international students
Organize and lead the annual international student orientation

Assist with daily office operations
Provide administrative support to Director to run all programs and events
Use various online systems to update student data, monitor programs, and create reports
Attend events and meetings as a representative of the Office of Global Activities (e.g. International Education Network)
Assist with event planning and implementation
Provide day-to-day task supervision and support for work-study students in conjunction with the Director of the Office of Global Activities

Occasionally moves through the buildings to attend meetings/events and access files or information May move materials weighing up to 20 pounds throughout the School or to other University venues for presentations or meetings
