Research - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
Join Dr. Caramori’s laboratory as the lead scientist. Grow and maintain primary skin fibroblast and proximal tubular epithelial cells lines in different glucose conditions. Perform basic molecular biology techniques related to these studies in collaboration with academic and external collaborators. Lead and direct process development and process improvement to implement Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). Review literature and introduce new technology. Train new employees; mentor, train and supervise students and interns. Perform basic lab maintenance. Present research at lab meetings.
85% - Regularly conduct experiments, including data analysis according to established guidelines. Participate in experimental design and run assays, organize data from experiments. Consult and participate with other researchers within the lab and other outside units.
10% - Laboratory maintenance/management and order supplies and reagents. Order supplies and reagents as needed. Attend meetings as required.
5% - Assist with various administrative duties related to the functioning of the laboratory, including the mentoring and supervision of undergrad students and volunteers. Prepare data for publication. Create data collection tools, protocols and guidelines.
Major Responsibility 1 To conduct experiments using molecular biology techniques (RNA work, DNA work, HELP assay, ChIP, qRT-PCR, Protein work etc.). To perform assays and analysis using diverse platforms, including qRT-PCR and CHIP-seq.
Major Responsibility 2 To successfully perform cell culture techniques (primary skin fibroblast and tubular epithelial cell lines).
Major Responsibility 3 To maintain detailed documentation of procedures and experimental data.
Major Responsibility 4 To help writing the method section (technical part) of grant proposals and manuscripts. To organize data to be submitted for publication or presented in meetings. To participate in weekly group discussions, literature reviews, and to suggest new approaches or modifications to current techniques.
Major Responsibility 5 To place orders, and prepare supplies, equipment and apparatus. To operate, maintain and calibrate apparatus. To maintain communication with collaborators about research methodologies and data. To keeps research area safe and clean.

Required Qualifications: -B.S. degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or related field with at least four years of research experience or Master's Degree and 2 years of related experience. -Must have relevant lab experience in Molecular Biology or Biochemistry laboratory including experience with skin fibroblast cell culture, RNA, and DNA and other different molecular biology assays like PCR, qRT-PCR, cloning, Western blot, ELISA, SDS-PAGE, HELP-assay, CHIP etc. -Must have experience with using Seahorse equipment -Experience in simultaneously growing a large number of primary cell lines -Ability to carry out research protocols from written or oral instructions by supervisor.
Preferred Qualifications: -Ability to establish new complex biochemical or molecular biology assays when needed and perform assays successfully -Ability to manage laboratory -Ability to training new personnel and students -Two to five years experience in a scientific lab with supervisory experience is a plus -Willingness to learn new techniques and methods. -Ability to work well within the lab group and with collaborators. -Evidence of being capable of troubleshooting experimental problems independently and to think critically about their research.
