Dept Marketing Statement Student Health Services (SHS) is a full-service medical facility offering clinical, educational, and psychological services to diverse students on the UC Santa Cruz campus. Comprising a variety of Clinical Services, including Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Laboratory, and X-ray, SHS also has an onsite retail pharmacy, offering both prescriptive pharmaceuticals and over-the-counter products. Other SHS departments include CARE (Campus Advocacy, Resources, and Education) the advocacy and prevention education office that supports survivors of sexual assault, stalking, and dating/domestic violence; Student Health Outreach and Promotion (SHOP) and the Condom Co-op; Patient Support Services, and Student Insurance Programs. Student Health Services employs approximately 120 staff including Physicians, Lab Scientists, Pharmacists, Nurses, Radiologists, and other clinical and administrative staff. Student Health Services (SHS) values staff with interest and experience in working with students with a wide range of ethnic, cultural, and gender identities.
The Multicultural Mental Health Psychologist reports to the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and is assigned duties by the Director as specified herein. The Psychologist will provide high quality clinical services; community psychology/outreach and consultation services; and may provide supervision/training of doctoral interns and post-doctoral fellows. In discharging these duties, the Psychologist is expected to be keenly sensitive to issues of gender, culture, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disabilities, socio-economic status, etc. and to be skilled with techniques for counseling students with diverse backgrounds.
All the Psychologist's activities are performed within the limits of standards and ethical principles of the California Board of Psychology, as well as, applicable legal mandates for mental health professionals in the State of California.
This position requires demonstrated expertise in multicultural and diversity issues in clinical and outreach services with Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) identified students.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule Salary Information: $86,433.48 - $116,332.32 / Annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.
Provides brief counseling and psychotherapy with undergraduate and graduate students (individuals and couples) with a broad range of psychological problems, with a focus on Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) identified students.
Provides crisis assessment and crisis intervention.
Provides case management and referral services.
Conducts group counseling, psychoeducational groups, and drop-in groups.
Consults with students, faculty, and staff regarding student concerns and student distress that affect the developmental and psychological well-being of students in the university community.
Consults and collaborates with psychiatrists, physicians, campus entities (i.e. Slug Support, Disability Resource Center, and others) and off-campus mental health professionals, social agencies, and community resources to meet the mental health needs of students.
Determines the need for other professional interventions and refers as necessary.
Provides supervision and training of doctoral interns and postdoctoral fellows as needed.
All licensed staff will provide consultation for the After-Hours Crisis Service as scheduled.
15% - Direct Outreach Service
Develops and implements culturally responsive and multiculturally sensitive outreach programs to BIPOC students.
Functions as a liaison to campus organizations serving BIPOC students.
Other duties, as assigned.
35% - Indirect Service
Functions as a community psychologist and a consultant to faculty, staff, residential life staff, and other units on campus regarding collaboration and program development for outreach and training to enhance the mental health and psychological well-being of students and the campus community.
Participates regularly in a cooperative and professional manner in efforts to maintain and upgrade the quality of service of the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) unit by participating in CAPS committees and workgroups and collaborating with other CAPS psychotherapists, college administrators and staff, and faculty in program development, committee work, and consultation.
Promotes a safe and healthy workplace and effectively responds to injuries that occur.

Valid California licensure, in good standing, in Psychology OR Valid out of state licensure, in good standing, in Psychology*
Demonstrated multicultural experience, skills and expertise providing culturally competent and trauma informed clinical services to a BIPOC client population
Demonstrated clinical experience with individuals using a brief therapy model
Demonstrated strong clinical and crisis management skills, including ability to work with high acuity students with complex mental health needs
Experience facilitating psychotherapy and psycho-educational groups
Experience designing and implementing multiculturally sensitive outreach programs and psychoeducational workshops
Demonstrated knowledge, understanding, and stated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity issues in the delivery of psychological services
Demonstrated expertise with developmental and mental health issues of late adolescence
Demonstrated ability to work in an interdisciplinary team and to effectively collaborate with people of diverse backgrounds
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to be an effective team member, and evidence of professional behavior
Strong planning and organizational skills
Experience in the use of electronic medical records systems; Must be computer literate
